I have noticed oil droplets coming from the sump plate on my 961. Figured that the culprit was the plate gasket so I would wait until the spring for my oil change and replace the gasket then. It was bothering me this morning so I decided to take a closer look at the problem. Discovered this on the oil pump housing.

It appeared to be a loose oil line bolt into the oil pump housing, But the steel oil line and rubber hose above was also wet. I kept searching and found the black strainer fitting was actually leaking. The strainer was fitted with the oil in airbox fix kit last year. the hose above the strainer is dry and clamps on the hoses are tight.

The oil leaking from the strainer is flowing down the hoses onto the pump housing and onto the plate, and then migrates to the plate's low point (left front of the plate with bike on sidestand) and drips to the floor. The strainer appears to have a screw on cap, and It's tight.

I would was wondering if any other 961 owners with the oil supply line strainer fitted to their bikes have experienced a leak from their strainer?

Yes I have. It was caused by the o ring not being seated properly

Was the problem resolved simply by moving or re-seating the existing o ring?
Did you have to replace the o ring?

Hi, I had exactly the same issue and treated it as above, no new o ring, just wiped it and reseated it and no leak since

Like Tiedy just reseated it. You would normally clean the filter during a service then the oil pipe is already removed from the oil pump and oil is drained out making it easier. Just another Norton minor glitch once fixed it never leaked again

You can always tell when someone has British vehicles by the kitty litter on the garage floor. Glad you located that problem at less than 150 bucks per hour. More money saved for your supercharger. Also, I don't have that filter since my upgrade. Just the newer valve cover, ugly assed separator and a wider diameter clear drain hose from the airbox. Not catch bottle. That may have been the dealerships design when we had a good guy still working there.

This is due to the o-ring inside the inline filter / strainer. If you removed the filter for cleaning it’s important to make sure the o-ring is properly seated or it’ll leak as yours is doing.
Even over night / days that filter is under gravity pressure because it draws from the oil tank.
