I have a friend who has a pile of featherbed stuff and would like to build a special. He is considering buying a new Goldstar motor for the Norton frame. The question is...can I use a Norton gearbox with the GS motor? It is a matter of lining up two pulleys (belt drive) and getting the teeth to agree with each other. I would probably go with the RGM commando diaphragm clutch with the commando mainshaft, the GS pulley may or may not be the same style teeth. How many different styles are there?
The advantage with the Norton GB is that it is already lined up with the rear wheel and is a very good trans with plentiful spares. The primary cases we will make ourselves.

All things are possible ..... with enough kilobucks.

Since you have the acumen to make your own primary cases, I am sure you can overcome whatever challenge thatt might rear its head.

Slick

This combination had been done before. Unity Equipe probably have the necessary engine plates in their catalog.

I think the lower frame rail on the timing side has to be modified to fit a GS engine.

I am sure the plates are available. I am trying to plan ahead and gathering what info I can. The pulley thing is a big question, I don't think all belt drives use the same pulleys, there is a difference in tooth design. There is a possibility of having to alter the frame on the timing side like the original GS frame.

hello for a kick off the frame will need modifying for a GS motor , but I could find many four cylinder motors to fit without any mods , and the best bent drive clutch is a Bob newby six spring ten times better then a Commando belt drive clutch, and why build a cafe race just because of the biker sheep are doing it , try building some next to the standard motorcycle with modern touch ok be different to the sheep bar! bar !!!
