I finally have 6000 miles on my 961

I would think that solid copper head gaskets will not compress or shrink over time.
Composite material gaskets will, requiring a re-torque until the material reaches a chemical/thermal point of stability. This probably requires a certain number of engine heating and cooling cycles.

The norton does not have copper. And the head bolts are not Holo-Krome either. They are after we replace them on engine rebuilds though. :)

So definitely don’t skip out on a head torque.

So retorque after 1000 miles. Do we do it again if yes at what mileage.

I finally have 6000 miles on my 961

Those awful running-in miles and weeks of snow covered roads are but a distant memory...

I don't remember which thread we were talking fuel consumption on, so I'll just leave this here. I was getting a bit jealous of the high mpg numbers being posted and me with my 38-39 mpg averages. So.....Its me. Y'all are a bit light on the throttle. I did a 68.4 mile round trip from a full tank and refilled afterward at 1.48 gal. achieving a respectable 46.2 mpg. Guess I need to slow down. I usually cruise 70-80 (on the clock including error) but this ride was 60-70. Makes quite a difference. Didn't think it was THAT sensitive. 8981 Working my way up.

We talked about MPG in the TonyA Engine Rebuild thread. More Fun of course like you are having Eddie with your new bike and magazine articles .

Tony, I have the decat, open short silencers and factory remap. I put my iridium plugs in but can't say I noticed any difference.

I had a good sporty, enthusiastic blatt around the lanes yesterday, 78 miles, quite heavy handed on the throttle at times, top speed 90mph but mostly around the 65-70mph. I just did a measured fill up with our standard 95RON unleaded. I got between 6.25litre and 6.35litre in tank to bring it back up to the brim.

Quick calcs...
6.25L = 1.375Imp Gal = 56.73 mpg(UK) or = 1.651 US Gal = 47.244 mpg(US)
6.35L = 1.397Imp Gal = 55.8 mpg(UK) or 1.6775 US Gal = 46.49 mpg (US)

I presume that a steady run I would get better mpg but for the life of me I doubt I will ever have a steady run on the 961 :)

That's about similar to my last run. Usually along my beach run where there are absolutely no turnout for cars to pop into the road, I'll crack it up to 115 to 120 for 10 to 20 seconds just for a thrill. That drinks a lot of fuel. I feel better now.:) And about the highest quality fuel I can get in these parts is 93 octane with 10% ethanol. sigh

23,333 miles; already corrected because of smaller front sprocket, which means minus 10% of what is shown on the clock since mileage of 20,000...

I have 8981 miles as posted in my last comment, dagnabbit.o_O I get bumped up one.:D Its ok. I'd break 9 grand today but have some back pain. Still might if the Aleve kicks in.

I'll wait til I cross 2500 before I bug you, Tony. Thanks for keeping up with this!

Hello Richard Pearce , You are piling on the miles again . I am going to take my 961 to Knoxville and visit the Dragon in a couple of weeks. I will post it all under My 961 Tour.

Hi ya Tony ,your going have to try master a head cam/ on board camera for that roller coaster

I suppose it's time for me to join the group. I've now got 874 miles on my 2015 Sport. I bought it in January with 402 miles on it, so I've averaged 94 miles/month so far. Should go up a lot faster now that the weather is so nice.

Ken
