Tail bag? Luggage?

Anybody think a tail bag would stay on that dome shaped tail? I know its not exactly a tourer, but I'd like to bring some small stuff with me on occasion. Just don't know what to buy. I put a small fork bag on the right side of the frame, but that's about enough for either some tools or a pack of smokes, lighter and a lip balm. Suggestions. I have a monoposto.
 
For the biposto version, does the pillion seat click into the cowl?
If so there is a great way to haul a full top box such as a Givi 46 litre on the bike. It isn't pretty, but luggage never is. The nice thing is, unlike the tank bag or backpack (especially the backpack) or even slidey annoying soft bags, with a top box clipped in you don't even know it's on the bike.
I sometimes wrap up and carry the little cowl piece in the top box. That way when I get to a hotel that is home base, the top box full of clothes etc comes off and into the room and the cowl cover gets clipped back in for any group rides etc.
Of course this will only work for the two up bikes and it requires destruction of a pillion seat, cheap for the Triumph, maybe not for the Norton.

I have a photo of the setup somewhere, if it is not deemed too offensive to include a Triumph Daytona photo on the Norton 961 forum, I could post.

I've never worn a backpack and don't think I'd like to start now. I was just wondering if a tail bag would keep from sliding over. Not into having a tank bag either. To obstructive for me and I don't want to scratch the tank. Guess I just try a tail bag and if it doesn't work, send it back.
 
The Givi hard top case definitely cannot compete with the look of soft suede cowhide bags. That is , not until it rains and everything inside the soft suede bags gets soaked plus the suede gets wrecked.
The other thing is those soft bags look like a great idea but always seem to find a way to slither around, rub on the wheel or chain and somehow mark up the paint while they are at it.
Hard luggage seems to be the ticket if you want to do lots of travelling and expect to get caught out in a few rainstorms.

I don't need much. Just more than a small fork bag. Some of the tail bags have neoprene bottoms for grip. I've thought about gluing a large mouse pad to the bottom of a bag because they are so soft and slip resistant. Strap the front corners to the frame and the rear corners to the rear signals or the plate mount. I'll get there some how. Was thinking of a swing arm bag, but they are a bit large for the Norton.
 
After looking for a way to carry enough luggage to go camping on my dual seat model, without damaging the paint, I decided to fit an AltRider luggage rack intended for a Multistrada. Some holes needed to be drilled in the rack and nylon spacers fitted. It works well combined with Kriega 70 liter bag setup. No problems over a 860 mile run and High speed blasts did not upset it at all.

That seems to work nice. The straps on the Cortech scuff a little so I wrapped micro fiber cloth around them. Doesn't look pretty, but so what. I saw a Harley the other day. Forgot the model. Kind of cafe ish. Not the V Rod. Sold more in Europe than here some years back. Anyway, has a similar tail. Two nice thin rods mounted horizontally underneath. Guy said it was for bags. Great design, but made specifically for that bike. Something like that would be perfect for the 961 because without the bags, they were hardly noticeable. I'll do some more research. Mines a monoposto, so the mount you have probably wouldn't work.

Britfan60 or anybody else who uses the Cortech bag,
I just ordered this tail bag. I'm still interested in any hints as to prevent scratches on my 961's tail...
 
I lay a microfiber cloth under it and around the straps. The bag doesn't really scuff the paint but the straps do. Very small spots, but still.....

I certainly wouldn't recommend this configuration.
Is this a one-off owner setup, or does a luggage manufacturer actually offer such a front end suicide option?
 
To each his own Richard. But personally, I hate to see handbags fastened to motorbikes!

A decent tailback would be a great offering though.
