Bought it in 1987. Rode it like mad all year around in rainy England before shipping it to Australia in 1993. Started the rebuild process then unforgivably stopped. Now the engine + parts are in my living room being put back together.

I apologise in advance for the stupid questions that will follow in the next months!

I recomend that Since the bike has been sitting so long you change the air in those tires before your first test ride. :p
Have fun 8) with your rebuild...........

G'day Warren and welcome.

Welcome aboard! What kind of ignition is that?
Rita.
You might want to whack some padding around those conrods so they don't get dinged against the side of the crankcase.

G'day Warren,

Welcome, good luck with the project.

Which part of Australia are you in ?, which year model is your bike ?.

Thanks for the welcome.

Correct, ignition is a Rita.

I'm in Kings Cross in Sydney. There is a Norton Owners club that meet up every month nearby so I'll be getting involved with them hopefully.

Done!

Bike is a 74 MkIIA. One owner before me (a teacher). The big jobs are to check the frame is straight, bead blast and powder coat. In the meantime top end parts have been ordered for a recondition. Superblend bearing have been fitted and I understand the gearbox layshaft bearing needs to be upgraded before it explodes.

The only thing that worries me is the electrics which as far as I'm concerned are nothing less than a black art.

cheers, Warren

It was. I hadn't touched anything apart from the Ignition, the rest is original.
