Yet another build

I'm not so sure about posting what I'm doing. Seems sort of inadequate given the artwork of many of the bikes owned by the people posting here. But given the number of people that seem to enjoying seeing a Norton being brought back to life...

What I started with:

How about what my Norton looked like today at roughly 6:30PM Eastern time? Not much point in cleaning it up yet. Still, that's a new CWC stainless rim/spokes out back along with a CNW chainguard (I'm so excited, haven't had a chainguard on this bike since I purchased it in 1982). Probably should get a new tire since it's a 100/90-19 Super Venom bought just before the bike got retired in late 06 or was that in 07? Anyway...

For some reason a new chain guard is the hardest thing to bring myself to spend on and so far ain't over a decade on two Cdo that sure could use it. I realize too, it means you have lost all control on what you will spend on your beauty, no matter how much you rationalize other wise. Get back to work, we need more new photo hits.

So, once I decided I was sufficiently ashamed of myself for letting the bike get in such a sad state of affairs I had a problem that had to be addressed before work could begin. Parts runs - Namely how was I going to get anything to/from anywhere.

I first had to get rid of my Toyota MR2 Spyder. It is a very nice (after the mods), but extremely small car (NO trunk, two seats only), but I didn't really want it to go. Since my son was graduating from the Univ of Florida it seemed like that should become my graduation present to him. Car is still here if I get to missing that sort of fun driving experience a small light car can provide. Problem almost solved.

I trundled back down to the Toyota dealer and bought a Speedway Blue Tacoma. This is the 4th pickup truck I've owned and all of them were blue. The first one was a 1965 Ford that I bought to haul this very same bike away from the PO's house in Missouri to where I was staying in Santa Cruz, CA. And I bought that blue Ford pickup because I didn't think I could fit a MKIII in the trunk of the Fiat 124 Spyder I was driving at the time.

Must be something about me, blue pickups and convertible sports cars. However, the Norton will be coming back as a black, no pinstripes version.

Strictly as an aside -- This beautiful, wonderful country I live in gives so much to so many - you'd think they would have a program whereby they would pay me to give up my day job to somebody that really wanted to work, then working for parts money wouldn't slow my progress down so much. Republican/Democratic candidates, you listening out there, my vote is for sale.

Anyway, front end off, wiring almost all gone. Just the simple act of removing the wiring has caused some wires to separate from their connector - copper rotted away, perhaps by an acid rosin when assembled, or maybe just lots of air pollution.

Hey, that's a good picture of the engine spring. I've been looking for that. Thanks.
