I and a bunch of others take exception to the first super bike
title as it was the Commando wining best bike 5 yrs running
that caused tire manufactures to come up with 120 mph rated tires
as C'do was first to be able to sustain that a ways. If this price trend moves to Commandos ugh. This should be moved to the price evaluation posts but didn't feel like digging that long here. Wonder if the Lava Lamp syndrome will come into play on the H--da.

Which was the first superbike not withstanding, I find this listing on Ebay interesting.

The explaination of what make it such a rare bike, and then only one picture of the bike. No close ups of any of the details that make it so rare...how could anyone actually bid this kind of money without knowing it is really such a rare bike? Not to mention whether any bike of this vintage is worth that much money.

Scroll down and read, scroll down further and look. Lots of pictures, lots of details.

LOL! I think it would be ok for you to type out the full name hobot... Honda. I don't think they'd boot you off the forum for that.. :D

Must be something wrong with my browser because I can't see the pics...I did see where he talks about replacement parts...new pipes...yet talks about hand welded pipes as being a "part" of the value...hard to see this kind of value here...just my opinion.

Wow! $120, 000, 42 bids and still 5 days to go.
Hobot I don't think you need to worry about standard production Commandos reaching these dizzying heights... but a pre production prototype. Hmmm. Are there any?

Larso, 25 years ago I could not have made a living in hillbilly Ozarks as a foreigner I'd been shunned as I've been told by others before me and locals that still remember. But most the died in the wool natives died off and the sigma eased up. Exactly similar on the past NOC-UK list and Brit Iron list, no one but no one spelled out fully or properly any other brand by Harley, so still reflexly avoiding the instant ridicule/flames. There is no Commando content but for comparison of how many famous models exist beyond what ever did and priceless collector values. To me the CB series were all impressive but just didn't age as well as our Commandos in Lava Lamp Land.

CB series of ...?????

City Bike series, I had a little CB 400F that was a blast to ride. It came stock with euro style bars, kinda like rear sets and a 6 speed trans. This photo was from 1978, You yellow guys may like it.

See what I mean so easy to let down fences into alien craft. I'll delete this soon so let your H--da hearts out. Banksters created no credit check $500 credit cards amazingly in sync with $495 H--da's that kicked the British business butts. My late brother ended up with a H--da 350 that couldn't hang with the Truimphs his friends because I didn't want him to get a Bonneville coolness and expense that would subtract form me too.

Up to Express Way speeds the CB350's up were little missles. I saw lots of things done with Vespa and Asian 2 smokes and plastic bodied H--da's its not surprise so few remain. H--da and other region brands don't have the supply support like Norton so its more dog eat dog over the bones... I have a soft spot for any decent cycle so saved a 4 cycle 350 by brother Dale was tossing out with junk he'd bought. One day on my Combat I saw one in perfect shape in our village square and turned out was president of vintage Japan club so did a cheap deal so he could rebuild bonds with his own bother. Smart trim lookers but still a bit to civilized for me.

When will we see the 1st 100K Commando?

Well the plot thickens with response by a famous Goldstar racer so buyer be ware but still might sell anyway.

Yes, it is a fake all right. Prototypes all had engine numbers in the 0001 to how many were made. Or some had bogus numbers and were to be scrapped. Heck all pre-production units were never meant to be sold. (no MSO, etc). With that engine and frame number... well maybe he got scammed and does not know better.. or... you know.

So, I badgered this E Bay guy the last 3 days... he was selling some Triumph parts that were not close to what was advertised. I sent a polite e-mail to him. Then he e-mails me back that some well known Triumph guy verified his ad was correct. Then I e-mailed him back correct pictures of real parts...with a strong Bravo Sierra.. He just e-mailed me back saying I was correct and that the parts were not even from a Triumph... Geeesh.. His expert must of been a Proctologist... fun eh..??

Horton my first road bike was a 400 four. All done up like a mini Rickman. Was great around town. You could come hard up to a corner under brakes and then just drop it into the corner. It would go round like it was on rails. Had great fun coming home from the pub with a belly full racing all the way with my mate on a 500 four. I had a 750 four after that but it was a heavy pig in comparison and not much faster.
This was in the days before I appreciated British bikes. Back then they were skinny looking things that leaked oil and broke down all the time.

How does number 2113 match a one of first four bikes when the listing also says.

BIDDING:

Regarding current values of sandcast 750s:

As a point of reference, fully restored sandcasts (with a "normal" 4 digit frame number) are currently selling at just under 40,000 dollars, with 3 digit bikes (Frame numbers 999 and under) fetching a 20% premium on top of that, and 2 digit bikes fetching more.

As well, a couple years ago, I sold a very low number (under Frame #20) unrestored sandcast to a collector for $75,000. This bike still was from assembly line production, using mass produced parts.

So why is it not a single digit bike ?

"It was the bike that changed motorcycling."

Actually, it was Honda's 50cc step-through that changed motorcycling, according to all of the Honda literature.

"first superbike"?

NO. Not even close. The DOHC CB450 was given that title years before, and others preceded that one as well.

First 4 cylinder superbike? Probably not.

First mass-produced 4-cylinder Honda superbike? Yes.

why would they bother putting frame numbers on a prototype?

Worlds 1st superbike prototype $120K ebay

Norton did, hears my prototype F1 frame P55004 as it is today, and it gets better the proto type F1 P55004 sold in america recently for £25K a bargain by comparison, how ? norton had 2 frames with the same frame number??

P55004 was the 2nd prototype bike built origonaly with a 24 degree head stock that was deamed dangerous so a second farme was made? note p55001 and p55002 were engines only, prototype p55003 and p55005 had std geometary. Production frame nubers were very similar but differant.

Regards Rc588

I e-mailed that guy and told him it was a fake.. he replied saying I was wrong.. you decide. I do know that prototypes would never be issued a title or MSO from the factory. They were never sold either, most got scrapped. Even early production bikes usually got scrapped or ended up as training bikes. Plus the engine numbers always started at 0001. Plus it has some non-original parts.. buyer beware..
