will this tank fit a '70 commando?

yes, as long as you use an Interstate seat. The roadster seat is longer in the front. I have a nice seat for sale.

You will also need to change the sidecovers. It's a bodywork swap. Easy back and forth.

The sidecovers for the 68-70 models are specific for those years. None of the newer ones will fit as far as I know because of the side mounted oil tank. Probably something could be rigged somehow, will the interstate tank hit them?

The IS tank I had came a few inches further back, but no farther in twards the center than the frame tube. I think some brackets could be fabbed to fit the IS side covers.

Here's a hi-rider tank, it may fit without mods, someone should know, the price is right. 380385946687 Anything other than a roadster tank is going to look funny on that bike though, but it's your bike.

Where is that tank made? It looks like it is already lined with something. I would be careful about buying a new tank that needed to be lined before use.

All the mounting look proper from looking at them in the image gallery. I would say yes.

there seems to be an indentation at the lower rear end of my tank that isn't there on the new metal tank.

note:
i haven't picked up my norton yet. its up in essesx vermont at the classic bike experience getting some stuff done

You do realize the green tank on your bike is a Roadster tank and the bare metal one you have foind is an Interstate style. They are both different tanks with same frame mounting.

Interstate Tank holds TWICE the Fuel , glareing at a few pictures should give a clue as to side covers fouling ,
Coustom seat or P.R. seat ? , if its to be ridden solo , would look cool .Early fastback sidecovers may fit with it ?

Looks like itd foul the front tops of the side panels , Easy to do a coustom F/Glass pair with tops parrallel to bottom face / footrest plate tops .

The early Commandos (fastbacks) had the side oil tank too that was the panel. I don't think it would work, but perhaps someone has converted a 68-70 with an Interstate tank? Remember this guy has the central oil tank.
