I've seen pictures of both ways, it seems correct to have speedo on right of my 1972 since the speedo drive is on the right but the tach drive is also.
On mine the speedo is on the left was like that from new, but really does it really matter put them on that suite you as long as the cables have a straight run with not kinks or tight areas.
It doesn't bother me but every other bike I've owned has had the speedo on the left (Japanese, German) why Triumph decided to put the speedo on the right remains a mystery.
