What's best Mikuni model?

Maybe you can keep everyone happy and go for a set of (or single) Amal MK2 carbs. Readily available from www.clubmanracing.com
The Amal MK2s have been mentioned in the forum previously, but I would be interested if someone would care to share their experience with a single MK2 set up.

I have run the single 34mm MK2. Good carb, easy to setup (cause it's a single carb) but much weaker than the Mikuni.
If you want 2 carb performance with a single carb setup then you will want a TMFlatside. This is as close to 2 30mm Amals as you will find. I am seriously concidering a single Mikuni 36mm - 6 TM with accelerator pump.

What the heck, one more anecdotal input:

I run a single 34mm Mikuni VM round slide and am very happy with it.

I built my Commando from a rolling basket and a pile of spare parts. The Amals were a wreck.

Instead of spending time and money fettling the Amals (which I seriously considered), I opted for a quick solution and bought the entire single Mikuni kit from M.A.P. The kit came with everything I needed with a beautiful manifold, pre-set carb and cable. I bolted it on and it ran great out of the box. The bike has always started first kick (OK, occasionally second), idles reliably and provides smooth power delivery throughout the RPM range that I use on the street. I can't comment on the comparison to the Amals as the only time I had with them was when they were slap worn out and running horribly. I've actually thought about re-sleeving them and replacing all of the jets just to compare but the Mikuni is running so well I have no incentive to spend the money.

The Mikuni VM34 is a great all round carb for the 850. If you want ease of starting, stable idle, economy and solid performance up to 80MPH with almost zero maintenance. Just put the biggest airfilter you can find onto it.

I run a vm34 , been on bike since 91, goes well enough to get me into puckering moments. I would recomend a TM34 due to sticking problems with the VM
