what tyre?

Hi,
it is time to change the shoes (the rubber tyres!) and I would like to ask an help to choose.

Now, my heart would go for the Dunlop TT100, which I really like, as thread and shape. But many people suggested not to take them because not reliable and very slippery (!)
is it true?

furthermore, other tyres I have seen are 8with the same kind of pattern):
Avon Roadrunner
Avon Speedmaster Mk11 (ribbed front tyre)

but, on the contrary I have been suggested to take (as more reliable and similar as pattern):
Metzler Perfect ME77
Metzler ME11 (ribbed front tyre)
or Lasertec (arrow front tyre)

what do you think? suggestions?
 
Well, since your asking. I'm using Avon AM26s 100/90-19 ... they work great on the front or back. When mounting, just make sure you follow the correct rotation for what wheel you put them on. They wear excellent (IMHO) stick really well, and are very inexpensive compared to alot of others out there. My two cents anyway ... Cheers. :)
 
I like the TT100s. I know people who race on the current sticky compound ones and they're very good.
When I had them on my Commando ( many years ago), I found them very predictable at full lean. They would squirm a bit on the tread blocks before they let go. It was kind of a warning from the bike, "don't lean over any more"
 
The more TT100s (and the old "Avon Roadrunner Universal 4.10H19") wear on the sides, the more one zig-zags in corners. Modern type Avons are far better. We use Roadrider front and rear (100/90x19) or alternatively AM41 on the front.

I just got a reply from British Cycles that the Dunlop TT100 would cost me $177 each.
Is it a pretty reseanable price? Would you suggest me to look also somewhere else? where?
what should I look at when buying? (I'm worried they have the rubber not that fresh and perhaps been produced in some places which may not be so reliable)
I found also some people selling them on ebay, but I'm not that sure about their reliability. Should I trust them? Any special experience or suggested website?

AM26 will be almost half that much.

Only ever had TT-100s on my Nortons except my 1970 which had a TT100 on the back and a skinny tire on the front.
 
I have Avon Roadriders and they seem like a good all around tire. No trouble with rain grooves and where I live that's a big deal. They do seem to not like the tar like stuff they patch cracks with and tell me I'm wrong but to me they seem slippery when wet. What is your thinking on this? Same as all the rest???

Yesterday when riding home cold wet evening wheel spining 2500rpm in 2nd gear on white line, big step sideways thought it was going to be embarasing, further down the road it started wheel spining and stepping sideways on shiny tarmac at 70mph.
Awsome dry tyre but I have no wet weather confidence in them
 
I used to love, love, love Metzeler Lasertecs. Til I discovered Pirelli Sport Demons. It's the Demons, hands down.

I don't know.. I really cannot see such modern tyres matching a vintage bike.. perhaps a good compromise could be the Metzler Perfect ME77.. but I'm findinf tha my heart beats for the dunlops TT100.. is that so bad?suggestions on where to buy?

Just had a look at the RGM site http://www.rgmmotors.co.uk and they have TT100s, Roadriders and Roadrunners for £69 each.

great! thank you: this is the reply I was looking in my subcoscience! then, if also the head confirms what already the heart was thinking, I'll go for them!
I already contacted them to know the cost of hte shipment to canada!
 
Avon Roadriders - excellent dry tyre, but iffy in the wet/damp but easy to to get on with once you know. In the southern states of the US I doubt if they would last that long on hot roads unless the compound is different, as they seem to wear quicker than TT100 or roadrunners. They also keep their ability until it's time for replacement ie will not track road imperfections or white lines when partially worn.
