What Is This Bracket For?

Hi there members,

I have just bought a Commando '74 model and found this bracket stuck in behind the LH sidecover. It was not attached to anything, just stuck in there near the rear chain guard.

I've looked at all the parts reference books on line and cannot find any brackets the same -- some similar with holes in them but none the same as this with no holes and a spigot on one end.

Can anyone help me with an explanation and description please?

It's the side panel locating bracket which would normally be attached to the battery tray.

Thanks for the pics. Does the spigot fit into a hole in the side cover and the other end just rest on the battery tray? It does not look like it was welded to the battery tray looking at the part that I have?

Any extra info appreciated.

Yes. (+ grommet)

The bracket would've been spot-welded to the tray, originally.

Plug weld it. Stronger than the spot weld.
