What is the point of having a nice bike?

Just stopped off in a pub, on the way home for bite to eat, parked the Commando in the car park. Some nutter reversed his car into it & sent it flying. I watched him do it. I have a broken side stand now. Luckily the footrest & handlebars stopped any serious damage. Don't worry, I have his details.
When I had it MOT'ed earlier in the year, the mechanic (twit) lifted my bike up with a trolley jack to check for any back wheel movement. Now I have a load of chipped paint on my engine plates.
I took my other bike (BMW K1200S) for a sevice at the main dealers (rip off merchants). I had to wait while they "cleaned" it.
They plastered it with water & it was soaked. It started misfiring on the way home. Looked uhder the seat & there was pools of water around my electronics.
What planet are these people on?
I am not happy.
End of rant.

Did you report the incident to the police there and then? They may have been interested in tracing this car and doing a breath test as the car was leaving the pub and knocked down your Norton without stopping. If the car was local, they may have gone straight round to the owners address.

Sorry to hear about your bike though.

I took my *onda for MOT a couple of years ago, and when I picked it up, there was fluid apparently leaking from the clutch master cylinder. All the way home I was cursing my bad luck, and estimating the cost and inconvienience this was going to cause, only to find that some dimwit had squirted a light oil around the rubber boot area. Why?

Never mind where I live the local 'Motorcycle Workshop' staff are referred to as Goriillas I did not know until I dropped my V11 into them for an MOT on the way home the front felt strange anyway parked the bike looked at it for ages could not work it out put it on paddock stands sat down and looked at it then it dawnwd on me the right clip-on was 2" lower than the left one. The B&^^^%%ds had drppped it went back and they just denied it.....my little rant.... :D Still the pleasures outweigh the downside espoecially now I have found a great MOT garage run by a guy who owns a Commando.

It's funny but the big problem I had with Norton ownership initially for me was getting someone to work on the thing. It is the reason I have never bought a ducati as the service charges and costs I read about in the mags seem ridiculous, with £800 fees for major services, more than a bmw 6 cylinder car service.

When you can pick up a 900ss for £2000, 'running'' it could cost 25% of the value of the thing.

Unfortunately, having anything nice and leaving it somewhere is fraught with problems, as is riding the thing! Nearly got side swiped by some myopic nazi in an Audi panzer on the way into work this week as I approached a roundabout in the outside lane, to turn right .while the retard in the tank decided he didn't need to go around the roundabout, just straight over, in my lane despite me just over taking him. Like some play station road racer.
I did point out this to him using universal sign language as I overtook him again..
The AUDI owner has overtaken the VOLVO owner as the most dangerous sub species on our roads in my opinion, with the king Tiger Q7 as the worst, with special blacked out windows so they can't see you, even if they bothered looking in the first place.
Rant over!

You're absolutely right, what is it about Audis ? I'm thinking of painting four interlinked circles on my mirrors. It'll save me having to look properly to see what's glued to my number plate.

Their stupid LED disco lights aren't exactly a major contribution to road safety either. Quite how they pass safety standards based on surface area when they're strung out in a line is a puzzle to me.

Too many drivers are attracted by the German factories' studies of 'Rear view mirror presence' designed to intimidate other drivers on the autobahns.

EH?

Not heard of that one but they are styled agressively and they are driven by the sort of driver that is obviously attracted to that.

I've totally changed my frame of mind so as not to go absolutely bonkers.

Most of you are familiar with my monoshock / Dreer-equipped 850 Commando? On the way home from the last major event with 4 bikes in the trailer, my meticulous tie-down method failed me, resulting in a serious gouging of the pristine gas tank pinstriped paint job.

I have an '03 Kwakaducky ZRX1200 that i took along on our 25th anniv. trip (same trailer). Well, I picked up a nice commando frame on the way home, setit in the trailer, then forgot to tie it down. By the time i got home, the previously perfect gas tank had several nasty scratches and dings.

I would have lost a lot of sleep, stamped my feet a lot, and promptly wasted a bunch of money re-painting them, as little as 5 years ago; now, eh...

The point is that you have done it, not the other a##. You should feel good enough about that. Forget the dingbats and go on about your life. Better things will happen to you, at least you didn't have to eat a toad to start off the day so nothing worse will happen.

Hey DogT go easy, a toad is a damned good breakfast here in Hong Kong!

No wonder so many of us do our own work. At least *I* know what I am doing right as well as what *I* am doing wrong, and I am there to correct my mistakes and make everything right.

Well said Jean. I know the owner of an independent repair shop. He soon learned how much recent graduates of motorcycle repair schools know. Their training records could say the kids are ace mechanics but poor Doug would have to train and supervise them on simple tasks like an oil change. Some of them never quite get it, so Doug has to let them go.

Didja ever see one of these shop-monkeys ever use a torque wrench? Or anti-seize?

Clowns. Frickin' clowns. Not all of them but 90%+.

Ain't touchin' my bikes.

To paraphrase the late (!), great (?) Charlton Heston, they can pry my wrenches (whit, natch) from my cold, stiff hands....

So you know Doug Bob? I don't live far from his shop.
My yellow bike got knocked down at the hardware store. No big damage except the front fender and I have another one.
It is frustrating as I don't think the guy had insurance but he did give me $100. That won't even cover the parts much less the polishing, a bit frustrating.

Well, the chap is paying for a new sidestand, he was ever so apologetic.
What wonderful things these old irons are, the solid footrests & handlebars saved the rest of the bike.
Hate to think what would of happened to the BMW, probably could buy another Commando for the price of those fairings.
Tis' giving me a break from decorating the bathroom
