Welcome To The Future

A mate of mine is a bus mechanic and they have had change over to electric buses
The buses have something like an 85 miles range until the battery is flat
And they can only charge 4 at a time
So they have a massive deisil generator running 24/7 in the yard to charge the rest

The Chinese must be laughing their socks off, they release the virus and so cause the western economies to crash and now are going to sell loads of batteries to further decimate the western economies.

I really do not think it will happen.

Its only 9 years away. The charging infrastructure is still woefully inadequate. Charging times are too long. Car are too expensive. Battery life too short.

Its political point scoring by those who live in nice houses with nice big drives and plenty of opportunity to plug in and charge up over night. No thought for those who live in flats, or otherwise have no off road parking facilities, etc. No thought for those at the lower income end who need the cheapest possible transport. No thought on where all that extra electricity is going to come from, etc, etc, etc....

I get fed up waiting at a petrol station if there are people in front of me taking ages fill up and pay for fuel
Let alone waiting for a battery to charge at a charging point!!
That's assuming no queue for a charging point
I can't park outside my house so no chance of charging from home
I'll have to buy a generator I suppose

It'll give the boffins something to do once they've got the cure for Covid, Cancer et al......
'Exchange' power cells, I reckon (should I patent the idea now?)

I know we shouldn't do politics per se, but I think us Brits are pretty thick skinned with this, so....
Give the job to Theresa May, then you can nigh on guarantee it won't happen :)

If you put a big solar panel on an e-bike, would it go up hills faster ? If your town was windy, it might be difficult to decide the best orientation for the panel. Perhaps land yachts with solar panel sails would be good ?

In Melbourne, Australia there are cycle lanes on some roads. However the normal road traffic travels very fast and cycles are not a threat to car or truck drivers. If you smash one, all you need to do it touch-up your paint.

Are there cameras and automatic fines if you 'wander?' I recently drove onto a residential estate in the next town (in my car) using the 'buses and taxis' access, thus saving a ten minute detour and the attendant noxious emissions. For this selfless act of protecting the ozone layer I was handed a £60 bill....

Welcome To The Future

I stopped at a Harley dealer the other day with a mate getting something for his Harley, there were a few Harley electric bikes in the show room and I asked what range they have and was told about 250km, I said be no good for me as most of our Sunday rides or any rides for that matter we do over 500km and what if you were traveling around our large country of Australia where some fuel outlets are so far apart and when crossing across to Western AUS even bikes have to carry spare fuel between fuel stops.

New Ford Mustangs seem to be becoming popular in Australia - more than electric cars. I notice that our ex-Prime minister, Tony Abbott has advised Boris not to allow discussions on climate change to undermine UK free trade deals. I don't think he was paid for his valuable advice. British people are so ungrateful !
