The guy at the machine shop that is refurbishing my 850 head called and said the intake valves will need to get replaced. He is getting a price from his supplier. As I check the web to prepare for sticker shock, I see that there is a myriad of prices for valves. I need just the pair of intakes. There was a set of Exhaust valves in a box of stuff from the PO and they are being installed already.

Is there a big difference between valves?
I have seen them listed from as low as $25 each to about $50 each.
This bike will be used as a weekender. Probably put between 3-5k a year on it.

Thanks

Black diamond valves are the only choice to use, nothing else compares unless you go Ti.

Standard valves from Andover Norton are perfectly adequate and I believe cheaper than Black Diamond.

I find that the genuine valves get dented on the top of the stem and make it hard to set clearances.
I'm in the middle of a rebuild right now and I've bought some Black Diamond valves to see if they are better.
