GM and EPA working hand in glove. Crony capitalism. GM is now UAW union owned/controlled. GE is the same as GM - corporation that makes money off of government tie ins/sweet heart deals/legal barriers to competition. Ford and Toyota are far more capitalist - build products consumers prefer. Neither needed a bailout. Toyota's non-union southern US assembly plants and growth/market share put it out of favor.

The statement continues, "The administration will continue to take steps, guided by science and the law, to reduce our reliance on foreign oil and increase our use of home-grown :shock: ."
...At least we now know what the EPA have been smoking !

Not to be picky but the United Auto Workers "own" 17.5% of General Motors stock and have a couple people on the board.
As such, they are a very minority "owner"
The largest shareholders continue to be through private and public offerings, along with the US government which
has been selling their stake since the IPO went public, at a nice profit redemption, so far, to the taxpayers.

I wouldn't square off against someone who owns 17% of the stock and controls 100% of the shop floor. In that sense, the UAW "owns/controls" GM. And, if I was the UAW, I wouldn't want to own even that much of the "new GM" stock. Past is prologue.
Political pressure used to quash objections to the bankruptcy reorganization's inversion of priority of claims. Corrupt as corrupt can be. Senior debt subordinated to the junior debt, just because it was the UAW's debt? the folks who are most responsible? Outrageous. They stood bankruptcy law on its head. Corrupt.
