update - worked on the 74 yesterday. when I did a "quick and dirty" timing check a while back, it appeared my primary case timing indicator was out by 6°. that seemed a bit excessive and I had my doubts. anyway, LSS, threw on a degree wheel and piston stop, and checked TDC by the book - THREE TIMES. in reality, i'm within 2° (set 28° BTDC degree wheel, have 30° indicated - primary case timing tab). all is good. number 2 issue - went through and checked valve clearance. seems I was a little tight or a little loose on each. readjusted everything. I was very "anal" about this and as far as i'm concerned, i'm dead nuts on the money - six and eight. again, all is good. finally, completed installation of the tri-spark. I really like that "red light" timing indicator - cool feature. anyway, key on, kick start (with plugs out) - appears to be a strong spark. hopefully, i'll wrap-up the carbs within the next couple days, and give this starting thing another try. might have better luck this time since I resolved the rotor/stator interference/binding issue. stay tuned....

Dont kick it over too much without the plugs grounded. Not good for the TS electronics.

plugs were grounded to the head - guessing that's OK. yes, no, ??? i'm thinking if the plugs were not grounded, I would have no spark.
