Hi Folks
This may be of interest to the UK guys there is a petition you could sign

HM GOVERNMENT e-petitions "Removal of ethanol in unleaded petrol"

Don't see it happening but it's worth a try.

Complete waste of time..........if popular public opinion actually made much difference to the crooks in power, then not entirely sure wars against the people of Afghanistan and Iraq would have gone ahead?

Oh my Carbon we agree so closely on a few big things like above, its going be fun merging our views on motorcycle physics too.
If voting mattered it'd be outlawed or Gov't's just declare an emergency to bypass public desires like say global bankster bail outs.

Having worked for several elections including our latest I firmly believe a person has little or no right to complain if he/she does not vote. BTW ethanol was introduced to our fuels during an energy crisis brought about I believe by O.P.E.C.,monopoly price fixing anyone ?

I thought it had to do with the corn lobby from Iowa, but what do I know? Maybe it's time for Occupy Ethanol?

And you thought we had problems with dissolving gastanks, liners, floats, float needles and lower BTU's.The poor Mexicans had a crisis too as the corn intended for tortillas and subsequent fat accumulation was being diverted for ethanol production. Eyeyaiya ! ! Corngrower lobbyists, huge subsidys to stop growing foodcorn and produce ethanol instead.George Bush comparing America to a bunch of addicts who must get off their dependancy of oil.Correct me if wrong but does it cost a bit more in total to add 10 % etanol to the mix than to stick with pure petrol ?

Think Monsanto all the way back to I.G. Farben and patented medicines from coal/tar/crude products into fertilizers.

Monsanto.Ethanol. Terminator gene.Oil based fertilizer cancers. So like where do we sign up for this petition thingy?

Sorry but governments here appear to do exactly as they want, no amount of petitioning has any effect on them!

Dave.

One thing about the Brits I have learned over the years of world travel is that they feel a need to fill out a form to hopelessly complain . Take that form to wicket 1 then over to the lineup in no.4. Also getting laid is unnecessarily complex.

Dave.

From the Magna Carta to the Declaration of Independence, I'd tend to agree with you.

The UK government feels it can go to war on the strength of "evidence" unlikely to convict anyone of a minor traffic offence, so dont hold your breath that a silly petition is likely to do anything to prevent some extremely rich people getting even richer at other peoples expense!

I think Shell V-power high test in my area has no corn. I prefer to drink my corn. When my Bourbon gets more expensive due to the corn cost then you'll REALLY see people scream!

bourbon........ yum

I think Dave is right, ethanol had more to do with creating a bigger market for corn growers than much else.

In essence, another federal government massive subsidy that directly favors the already very wealthy, by far US farming is dominated by large corporations, pure profit driven, well healed with their own lobbyists.

I remember reading somewhere that it costs more in energy to refine and produce ethanol than it "saves" is gasoline in people's cars.

Try talking ending ethanol subsidies with the Iowa Corn Growers Association.

Nanny State welfare for the already wealthy.

Just another example of politicians being bought off by agribusiness. http://www.tampabay.com/news/perspectiv ... 902562.ece

As everyone says, welfare for the banks, petroleum, pharmaceuticals and agribusiness, while the middle class jobs keep getting sent offshore and we cut money for the schools and teachers. What a plan. I'm glad I don't have to compete in this environment.

Rant over.
Dave

Almost true!!!! The amout is very close with corn, The thing that makes a bit of sense is sugar cane as the return makes a bit more sense, But we all know money talks and politicians will do anything to get it. There was talk that with all the money problems they might end the subsidies. That may be the only chance we have to see it removed. Don't hold your breath though.

I live less than 5 miles from an corn ethanol plant that produces about 53 million gallons a year. I have heard from more than one source that it costs more to produce than regular cost of unleaded gasoline (Government subsidy). I remember on the onset this plant being built that to buy shares you had to belong to the Association. Was just was talking to a person this past Friday and they'll defend themselves up & down about the so-called benifits. During the conversation I brought up the deteriorating effect to fiberglass gas tanks in boats & motorcycles and he seemed to shift the answer to how the alcohol breaks up the build up in the metal tank and caused problems. Avoided the fiberglass topic. Flex-Fuel vehicles get less Miles Per Gallon of E-85 than E-10 gasoline. Soon it will be E-15 gasoline.

Anyway, I now have been using alcohol-free gas which is available in my area. Use it for my mowers & the Norton.
Runs better IMO. Cost's about 30 cents more a gallon but it's worth it. Has a 90 octane rating and I mix 5 gallons of it with about half gallon of 110 octane race gasoline.
