If there's any justice in the world there should have been an Oscar nomination for Garner's portrayal of a "sincere man" in the following clip.

Hey Al, Check it out , this is 2014, do you know how old this thread is and that video, get over it!

I'm aware the video is from the 2011 bike show, so that's just over 2 years. Funny thing is, they're still coming out with more bullshit - e.g normal oil consumption of 1litre/1000kms. And no reported fix for owners with bike problems. I wonder if the guy who lost £3,000 has 'got over it'. Just like to make sure people are aware of the facts  .

I have had a lot of conversations with people that deal with Norton and also guys from
the Club.

It is sad that the majority of opinion is not possitive and I use my words carefully.

To solve problems Norton need the help of their suppliers, in the case of the cam chain,
I gave up on Norton some years ago and I am aware that others feel the same. I do not
know the full story but the aquisition of a palacial home, for whatever use, would come
low on my list of priorities when it came to developing the bike.

I read with sadness the various posts on the forum regarding issues and applaud the stalwarts
who defend the Norton name, however at some point Norton has to face reality and start
addressing the problems raised in the posts.

I have firm orders for over £2000 from 2010 and would gladly help if Norton had had the
courage to front the problems rather than look for other suppliers.

I do not have a Norton, but I have been involved from day 1. I wish them all the best but
the "head in the sand" attitude needs to go. Companies are run by humans and we make
mistakes...god know I make enough and its how you deal with them that can make or break
you. From the comments on this post Norton seem excellent in some aspects of aftercare
but crap in others. 4 years + down the line and the problems appear to still be there.

To Norton I would say make the name proud again and make me want to swop my Suzukis
in for a Norton.

they wanted a non - refundable deposit at south bay Norton in Kalifornia. not a professional business plan if you ask me. esp when all promised delivery dates have been missed. i got into a heated argument w Dan Van inept, at the long beach show a few years ago. he asked if i wanted my money back, said no i just wanted the Fkin bike, course it was said in front of about 2 dozen people gathered around the Norton booth at the time. have been thinking about pulling my depost just on general principal. Didn't take John britten that long to build his bikes for crying out loud... just amazed that no bikes have shown up in calif yet. texas, NY, canada got their full alotment.. Japan. and so the saga continues..

As was said before this thread is so old and things have moved on now, I have had my 961 for well over 3 years now and done over 6,000 miles. It's been fantastic no oil problems and is 100% reliable(so far). I can't speak for overseas owners but I have spoken to a number of other UK owners and they all have only good things to say. One bloke had his delivered about the same time as me and he has done over 12,000 miles without problems, I wouldn't hesitate to buy another in fact I will probably get one of the Dommi's next year.

i know of a gentleman from england who bought # 6 off the line, bike was never fixed to his satisfaction, sold it and bought a colorado norotn works bike. reguardless if this blog is old, the problem still persists. and new models have been delivered her ein the states, while the first orginial order for 961Se ha e yet to b filled. yeah i have something to bitch about....

The same gentleman who started this thread in November 2011.

it will b 5 years in january, since i put down a deposit... i am 5 shipments away from a bike. asked for a refund in august, have yet to get a reply, even with repeated visits to SBNT. so much for a professional approach to business with Matt Capri.

Maybe you should buy a bike in NY and stick the west coast with the warranty work. They've been selling bikes fairly regularly here. We're only across the pond. You're across the pond AND the country.

Well this is a very interesting thread, and quite old, almost as old as the New Norton.

I have a question: Are most of the customers, who laid down deposits, waiting for a SE? I will comment further when I see some answers to this question.

Can you still get an SE spec? I thought the base bike had undergone hundreds of changes since the SE came out, including new suppliers? Do they revert to 2009 SE spec or do you get a 2014 spec SE?

My question was based on the premise, that many of the people put money down on an SE. And, that model may no longer be available

Did the SE come with carbon fiber wheels? These are very costly. With Norton's cash flow problem, they may have opted to keep supply chains open to vendors that produce components that go on all models. And, Norton might have decided to keep the SE orders open until a time when cash flow would allow for purchasing more expensive components used on the SE

This is all guess work on my part

50 SEs were earmarked for US/Canada I believe, and due to the time it took to get the 961 through the US and Canadian emissions regulations it seems unlikely the US "50" would be built to the original 2010 specification.

They were part of the SE's original specification.

With Norton's cash flow problem,

I'm not aware there is a cash flow problem now but probably still a case of supply not keeping up with demand, although the situation appears to be much better in the UK.

most of the delays are for the 961 SE spec bike. it was the first model announced, yet other models are being delivered in the states. go figure..... why would i change the model jus to get a bike ?? and have to order it from another dealer across the nation. am sure there e would b a mess of problems with getting a bike with a deposit for the original model. then add on an additional delivery fee.

Wow, that is almost unbelievable... you paid a deposit 5 yrs ago      and STILL no bike.. (if i read this right) I understand that you want "what you ordered" not something a bit different.... Surely you have adequate evidence etc to pursue through courts ??? ..
What does "5 shipments" mean in real time. 2-3-5 years? who knows... I feel sorry for you with your problem and wonder how many others out there have similar problems dealing with the new Norton business??

Here is Aust we has a "Consumer Protection" (Ombusmen) division within the Goverment, who will take action on your behalf...... MAybe you have something similar where you are...

I believe there is no difference in that the Euro 3 compliant bike satisfies CARB as is, so it can be offered as a 50 state model.

It was also explained to me that due to Norton's early entry into the U.S. with South Bay/Matt Capri as U.S. distributor, that all U.S. SE models were controlled by South Bay. Given the very low production numbers and desire to spread out deliveries among dealers, South Bay is getting a trickle of SEs while other U.S. dealers are getting non-SE models. It was also explained to me that if you are unhappy waiting for your SE through South Bay, it would be an even longer wait to take delivery of a non-SE through South Bay, because those bikes are at the end of the SE line.

Still loving my Café Racer, with 2,300 miles now.

5 shipments would b quite probably the end of summer in 2015. as far as i can figure. what with the delivery that have happened so far. going to court would leave me with less then half of my deposit. was hopping that capri would do the right thing and refund my deposit, but i hear crickets after 3 months. no calls, no e-mail, and he magically disappears when i show up at the shop. About ready to take my boxing gloves down to SBNT and beat my refund out of him...
