Over last 2 days put in anodized slides, #3 cut out to help make up for bore wear I hope and maybe a bit more throttle response. Old 10,000 mile slides were worn .005-.007" compared to new ones.

New and shorter brake hose, fixed master cylinder leak just cleaning up and Hylomar the outer seal around piston and rim contacts. Lever felt firmer. Bled over some hours pumped then lever tired back. Put on 3rd sidestand spring since Empire rally, as trailer ramp collected the first two. Decided to video before new CommandoSpecialties muffler put on.

Everything ready for a Labor Day fling but still have no brake to resist even walking speeds let along a down hill roll. ugh. But seems to idle back now and no smoke from wet sump or what not.

Had emergency call out so no after dark trailer drilling video, maybe Monday pm.

What was the 5 count for? Tickling? I tickle until I see gas. Both sides. Kick over once or twice and then turn on the key. And then give it a real kick.

Yes I've just begun practicing a count down series on Trixies Amals to get a sense of how much before it drips out. Prior I just flooded and got 1st kick cold starts every time but that is messy smelly and a bit dangerous as have had points spark set bike on fire at gas pumps on pavement so almost died blowing out flames, in several attempts - that seemed out but flared again, till almost passed out with exploding heart cramp, till I realized I had to start at ground and work huffing puffing upward or lower lick of tiny flame re-ignited the vapors above, ugh.

What I was saying on Trixie while head cocked, listening to the rough miss-firing fast idle, feeling chest fallen, was - " Huh, I don't know what that is about?"
She was pretty smooth prior even though not able to return to idle. Was relieved that was just stuck new slides and too high throttle screws setting to get by on last fling. Relieved when wet sump cleared out and screws backed down so small blip up returned to slow idle. I think new slides solved carbs [for a time now] but don't know till brake fixed so can leave my garage to get to road temps.
At some point I'll get it down to just one carb no drip tickled for routine 1 kick life no matter the temps.

Video was the most kicking I've had to do on cold Trixie prior and new #3 slides effects are having to be leaned too. Hot Trixie could be a bugger to get going, needling working up to a flood of tickle. I assume the worn slides/bores were part of that annoyance. I'm used to one kick no matter what state starts.

A beautiful riding day off has become a fettering day instead on caliper or better yet lawn mower which has some usefulness to run. ugh.

I'm headed out to mess with my brakes today too. I feel your pain.

I don't trust a simple count to tickling. When there isn't a lot of gas in the tank it may take longer to tickle.

I hold until I see the slightest drip. If you get enough to run down off the carb, you have too much.

There must be something to this one mind and life idea, sharing others states does seem to dull the sharper pangs and sharpen the peaks of the highs too. Mostly was just making my own noise for video effect on new state of new slides sealing plus cut out size, richer. Didn't take time to count down while watching gas weep to stop before drip- just wanted to start and see if idled back and if brake hose and m/c sealing had any benefit beyond lost time and money- which it didn't.

Fixing to eat then get with it on cycle or mower, which is an on going theme since going out for a mower but finding a Combat to use up last of my reserve$ moving here in '99. How's that for living on faith, as hadn't even found a new place to work. Framers told me not to worry the grass will just get so high then falls over, and they were right : ( But unexpected death and maiming is also an ongoing theme so glad I made the childish decision and survived some intense events with more lurking in every breeze and flower face.

1)- Commando peashooters, commando specialties $325
2)- anodized slides, A few bucks.
3)- Brake line hose, A few more bucks.
4)- Watching hobot "Kick er' over" .............PRICELESS !!!!

:D

Naw, silencers were on sale $130 a pair for nice finished if too heavy construction and almost no baffling louvers inside. Could of gotten brake hose @ $60 but wanted to support an new vendor on my long list and have one stop shopping delivered.

What would really be priceless is seeing me ruining blindly out of shed in middle of night throwing tools and parts and turning the air blue swearing - thrown back into infantile state after higher centers simply over whelmed, again.

In case ya forget - I know how easy a factory Combat should be to start. Even below was not that easy to me as didn't fire half way down like Ms Peel to be careful not to strain arm or leg by un-resisted full extension, like a punch that misses a face in a fight.

Btw ripped up jeans were chain saw close calls, missed knife slicing or snagged mowing or caught on bike parts or acid dissolves.

Steve entertaining as usual and it's good to see you finally have a runner, BOUT TIME.

Whoa ... you ARE the man Steve !!! Startin' a Norton (and a combat at that) with just yer right arm ??? I have a hard time with my right leg; and it's my stronger leg of the two. Moocho entertaining videos, thanks for posting :D

I re-bled my brakes and they are better than ever. I might need to go for a little ride...

Well my state of C'do depression is not up-lifted as Wes got his '71 clutch working and SWMBO is busy re-arranging home nest, we found fork leak polluted pads, so drain too thin power steering fluid for floppy factory Roadholders and put in 15-40 diesel oil, detergent and sand pads and disc - while Wes fought off the Frankenstein peashooter for new ones and got rear brake adjusted better and she starts normal and settles down to ilde decently so Yehhaw, we is off to bike party town Eureka Springs till dusk and take on that Race Track Road again this time with decent Combat function. Ohyeah, the front brake leaves a black streak no problmeo.

Wiil shoot up the trailer later tonight, so Later Gators... 5pm now.

Party town, yeah yeah, I'm goin to party down !!
Don't go drinkin and smokin and showin off with your hand starts.
Two Pins in a shoulder really hurt, FOR EVER.
AC.

Now THAT is impressive, none of these fancy FI and trick ignitions like Jim Comstock's bike has. I'm glad you used restraint when I shook your hand

Hehe Jean, funny you mention my Popeye grip, discovered that in elementary school contests with bigger and older dudes, both in fun game and knock down fights. When C'do well tuned they should fire off on first TDC piston pass so kick lever just out races a karate kick or arm punch. A swami told me its not the size of the muscle mass so much as the pressure it can develop. I have digital grip meter for neuro exams and find I can match most big guys grip but do get beat now and then. If neck spine not too decayed then full nerve firing can get through. i've lost weight down to 150 lb so trying to fill out some more again, ugh. This hand start did not fire off till full stroke so only had a few attempts in me if it didn't start pretty normally. I and others had em start on just key on with Boyer when they happened to land just right and still warm enough mixture was still ignitable.

Wes and I had a mild blast and a meal into late after noon to dusk. Then he went home and so did I - but took 50 extra mile crooked way back, half Gravel, half new paved hwy. i am very pleased with Trixie's completely factory brake, minus the factory stupid restriction to mimic a dumb drum brake action. Low effort ease for sane hwy pull downs yet caution not to lock up on hard hwy speed squeezes. Tire grip is only limiting factor now not Lockheed art deco sculpture.

Trixie will idle back after a delay now and can use engine drag instead of speeding up in low gears going down loose sloped turns. She's got her Combat spirit back too - no end to the pull up to indicated ton so far. That's about as fast as I care to rake an ordinary Combat in perfect conditions but may press her to about max out at least once to know what she can do, just to say I have again but no desire or intentions beyond that - if I even ever do. She is what she is and rather nicer handier than my spiffed up SV650 in all ways but holding sweeper leans under power, BIG TABOO on ordinary iso'd C'do, BEWARE!!!

15W-40 grade diesel oil seems about right for floppy eared clearances in factory Roaholders. No more bike hop easing into turns, just normal suspension and tire bounce. Got to work up a bit of the sharp angled corner attacks I like, up to point Trixie's rear stepped out a bit so I now know what to avoid on this ordinary iso C'do. Also got to kick up heels a bit on the wider milder Gravel turns, getting front to skip/slide out against the straight steering falling over states, so I know what to avoid on this ordinary iso'd C'do fine as they are to everyone else.

Operated like an ordinary iso'd C'do Trixie is a sweet treat now that tempts me out in uncomfortable conditions as so fun again instead of scary work out.

Only real scare was on leaving hyw to narrow paved path to see two deer in time with high beam, one on each road edge, both spinning to face and leap across to each others side and my path. I SNORTED them to suddenly change their tiny minds just in time as i passed between them through impact point. No time to brake no time to tap useless horn, just Gladiator aggressive thrusting at them. Ugh wife just read over my shoulder and told me another deer biker death here and TV warning the tar crack repairs are giving way under bike tires in summer heat, UGH.
