Triumph Motorcycles, Meriden, 'their fight for survival'

Thanks for sharing that. Nice to see shiny new TSSs being assembled too!

I remember watching that as a 14-15 year old, already a staunch Triumph fanboy !

John Rosamond book ‘Save the Triumph Bonneville’ is an excellent detailed read about this period of Triumph's history, albeit quite a depressing story all in all.

When you read Johns book it really was a ‘fight’ for survival.

In fact it was a fight for survival practically every single day for almost 10 years.

Those guys trying to run the show and constantly balance the unbalanceable must have been pretty much burnt out by the end.

Poor buggers.

They were saddled with an old engine design that was already way past its use-by-date. Even if they had good financial resources it would have been a hopeless task just considering the emissions requirements.
Norton was in charge of Enfield Interceptor in the last years and they closed them down even though they had
orders for bikes. If you are familiar with the Series 2 you will understand that even with a LOT of design changes
it was just not a viable bike design anymore for them either.
