And now for an interesting one.

I've just installed a new stator unit after the old one suddenly failed after 13 years.

 It just refused to produce any spark after I stopped for a break in the middle of a ride.

Anyway, with the new unit fitted it now starts, run and idle as well as before but the strange thing is I can't stop it running! The ignition switch is useless, though it seems to behave as it should after multiple tests. And, wait for it, it continues to run with the battery disconnected at the fuse!

I've just sent a message to Steve Kelly, waiting for his reply.

Any clue from someone here?
