Hello all,

Well, I finally made up my mind on upgrading the ignition on my 1973 750 Interstate, have had a reliable Boyer unit fitted, been on Motorcycle for 15 or 20 years, only changing as I do not want to experience any more kickbacks, and have read such good reports on the Tri spark.

Anyway, I ordered a tri spark classic twin electronic ignition, from RGM, box arrived the other day, imagine my surprise, horror more like, to find upon opening the box that the contents, in three plastic bags, were loose!, no internal packing what so ever!!.

I sent an email to both RGM and tri spark, RGM, to their credit, replied, said they would contact tri spark on the poor packaging, said they had not had any damaged units back.

No word from tri spark yet, but disappointed on that.

My question is, are all the tri spark electronic ignitions sent out like so?, just the components wrapped in small plastic bags, rattling about inside the box!!.

I can't see any damage to the components, no marks or dings, unfortunately I will not be able to try it out for a few weeks yet, so am hoping there is no damage.

So to any one on the forum who has also purchased a tri spark ignition, did it come loose in the box?, as mine has, can't quite believe they are sending such a high end/expensive product, half way around the world, rattling around in its box!,

All the best,

John

They normally come packed in a box like this:

Relax if was so fragil to need shipping protection then who'd dare install in a Brit Iron beater upper. RGM is a bit infamous for much fast if ever email after sales.

At over $300, I'd want the cardboard too.
Mine came as pictured from CNW

These units are the best. I installed one on my 68 Triumph Daytona and it's a different bike. It had a boyer on it and although I never had any problems with it, getting the bike to idle consistantly was always difficult - it's common for Daytonas even with points. Once I installed the tri-spark, with the high output coils as well, it idles great , probably due to the idle circuit build into the system, and performs beautifully - with no boxes or wires running all around the motorcycle. I have even once started the bike by accidently leaning on the kickstarter with my elbow !

I'll be putting one on my Commando rebuild for sure. Bye Bye Boyer.

Yes, they come just in the plastic bags inside the box, with no additional packing. I do add some bubble wrap if mailing out. It may not be totally necessary, but it certainly doesn't hurt.
I have had zero issues so far with Tri Spark, and they are certainly a very e-start friendly unit. Accordingly, I always have them in stock.
I typically fit ign, coils and leads as a "kit".

I have had a trispark on my 71 Commando for two years and three thousand miles. No issues, the bike idles perfectly. I am very pleased with the trispark ignition, it performs as advertised. Craig

Thanks to all for the reply's, hopefully my tri spark will give me many years trouble free service, I shall fit a tri spark dual coil as well, with NGK plug caps, or maybe Champion?.

I am wondering if I can put some timing marks on the old boyer, before I remove it, whether is would be possible to carry as a back up, to re fit on the side of the road!, worth a look.

I do feel bad in replacing the old boyer, it has been so reliable, just the nasty kickbacks now and then, and the promise of the strong tri spark idle, we shall see....
