I recently started working a 850 Commando that was given to me buy my step father a while ago, well to get to the question it mostly has wiring issues alot of it was missing ignition switch, rectifier ect. plus most of the wiring .
Instead of replacing the old points setup I was thing of going with a Tri-Spark system do you think that would be the way to go?

Thanks,

tri-spark

hello , sounds like your going to need a wiring harness first. Thats what i did new wiring harness and installed tri-spark .Had good luck with a tri-spark on a trident so now have their twin version. Will put it to the test when the weather is rideable. Best thing i did was re -wire my bike get the electrical in order for electronic ingnition to be trouble free! M.C.

tri-spark ingnition

back again had the night to sleep on it . Would highly recommend tri-spark to any one wanting to do away with standard points ing. easy installation great tech support !BUT no matter what ing. system you go with is only as good as the condition of your electrical system. Seems the last two bikes that ended up in my garage had boyers but needed electrical attention . 75 norton 75 t-160 . nice thing about the tri-spark it has a light on the unit for static timing lights up every time it fires. good for trouble shooting . M.C.

Pazon...Pazon-off

I have a new Pazon, still in the box---it is now for sale--good price too. PM me if interested...I also have a still-in-the-box MegaCycle 56000 cam also 4 sale

I ordered a Tri-Spark yesterday after speaking with Matt @ CNW. Matt is very cautious about endorsing anything, but he was overflowing with enthuiasm for the Tir-Spark Classic Twin unit.

The big pay-off for me is the compact, no-black-box size. I also very much like the low voltage tolerance.

And, get this: You set the engine at full advance, turn the unit until it shows you a red light and bingo your timing is set to within 2 degrees!

RS--paying tution yet again

Tri-Spark ing.

Hey roadscholar you just made a good choice! Your riding time should double thats if you did your homework! M.C.

Just getting round to fitting my Tri-spark, was wondering what degrees you guys set yours at statically?, instructions say 28 degrees, BTDC, as Norton full advance is 28, then strobe, which I will do.

Boyers are generally timed to 31 degrees on the Commando if my memory serves me well

Boyers do recommend 31 degrees BTDC, however the Tri-Spark is set at 28 BTDC.

the trispark is nice kit - the Pazon is also a nice alternative - of course it's not as good because it not as expensive :) - i've just
fitted one to a commando - nice product.

The Tri-Spark is the most compact unit on the market, everything fits under the timing cover thanks to a very high level of integration. I had originally selected the Pazon, a very good choice as well, but sold it in consideration of not needing a place to mount the Pazon's black box. I was intending to make a spring/elastics mount between the backbone and the headsteady rail, which would have been fine, but with the Tri-spark I can use that space for something else.

Tri Spark

I ordered the Tri Spark last week to fit on my recently acquired 75' MarkIII. I would appreciated any feedback with regards to fitting any other charging system parts such as the regulator, coils etc. I have heard the Podtronics regulator is a good choice. Thanks in advance.

The destructions that come with the Tri-Spark are very comprehensive, read twice, install once, strobe once; move on.

Thanks, good advice, "When everything else fails follow the instructions".

tri-spark

hello all steve kelly from tri-spark says to strobe at 4000rpm not in the instructions. I know my scale on chain case is off for setting timing so i rotated to BTDC on my scale it showed 30 degrees so thats going to be my timing mark at 4000 rpm dam its hard to see that timing mark on a sparxs rotor ! Tri-spark seems to breath alot more life in to this commando starts beautifully know if i can get the carbs to be have. Used stock coils resitor plugs did up grade charging system but with tri spark not really needed M.C.

Something I've done on my cars and bikes for the past 30 years - I paint a white line on the timing mark. On the Norton, I painted black on each side of the white lines (remember there are 2 on the rotor, 180 degrees apart).

I also painted a line on the idle and air screws on the amals - I can tell in an instant if a setting has vibrated out of adjustment.

tri - spark

good idea! wish i would of thought of that when i was installing the new rotor with cover off and rotor in hand. For now a stronger pair of glasses might help M.C.

You guys have me seriously considering the Tri Spark. I sent them an email asking if it would work on my system.
Anybody know how the anti kick back works?

Tri Spark Purchase

BritBike220, I ordered mine direct from TriSpark, about 20 US shipping, took about 8 days. I have not installed as I am waiting for the Podtronic regulator to come from RockyPoint.
