I've been curious for some time about the current whereabouts of my old bike - a 1968 650SS.

I had bought it in pretty bad condition in the fall of 1975 in Fredericton New Brunswick, Canada.

The story was that it had come to Canada with a Canadian guy who had been in Rhodesia on some kind of volunteer aid program, and that it had been a police bike in Rhodesia. he brought the bike with him when he came back to Canada. (When i bought it, the tank, oil tank, battery cover were white, and front fender had a license plate fin).

I fixed it up, painted it black, and rode it till 1981, at which point needed cash for grad school and sold it to a friend, in Ottawa Canada.

He (Graham N.) kept it for a few years, with only occasional riding, and sold it in the late 80's (i think), to a lawyer in the Los Angeles area. He added an oil filter, and apparently had to fix some gear problems (probably cursing me as he did so).

I moved to LA in 89 and kind of expected to see it on the street one day , but never did. I'm now in the San Diego area, and riding my Commando regularly, but still keeping an eye out for the old 650SS (ah, what stories I could tell!)

I don't have the serial number or any other identifying info, but if anyone knows of a 650SS that might be this one, let me know. Not intending to try to buy it back or anything (there, on the record, just in case my wife is watching me type), but curious about whatever happened to the bike.
