I think one of the secrets to keeping the cams and followers in good shape is if the bike has been standing for more than a few weeks take the exhaust tappet covers off and pour an egg cup of oil down the pushrod tunnels.Also don't start it and let it idle straight away. Keep rpm to about 1500 2000 to get the oil about and up to temp.
