Thruxton fairings on ebay

I know that there were a few who were considering applying one of these beautiful Thruxton 1200 fairings on your Nortons. These are new and about half price including the mounting cage and hardware. Easily fit to your 961 and other Nortons with minor modification.

Will do. Need to get it mounted and I think you and I have spoken about that before - your further advice would be welcome when I come to the mounting process. I have a local guy who does awesome custom bike paintwork. The fitting of a fairing to this bike is a bit divisive but I love the look, especially on the CR. I’m liking the paint job on the below Thruxton fairing.

What’s in the water? Secret cleaning compounds known only to a select few, that make yer 961 shine like the Crown Jewels!🤫 AKA adobeclean!
I never use water on any of my bikes. Especially the Nortons.
They all get a thorough detail before and after each ride but never with water.
 
Find that hard to believe Rob, there’s a lot of them around fitted to Thruxton R‘s and as standard on the TFC. Good tip though; may pick up a spare just in case. If not, there’s always Fleabay!

Big box arrived today. Full of lots (and lots) of bits!

I’m almost glad I’m gonna have to re-engineer a (simpler, hopefully) new solution as it looks bloody complicated. I watched a video of a guy that had spent five hours and was still going :oops:!

That aside, Triumph has really worked out how to maximise accesories. Take a look at the options for each bike, it borders on the ridiculous! What’s not daft though is a centralised online repository of installation/assembly instructions. Go to site, put in part number and download a (very) detailed PDF. Recently fitted a rally tower to my DRZ - the instructions were; work it out for yourself and give us a call if you have any difficulties.

Everything appears top quality - pity I‘m gonna have to paint this sexy red fairing. Good job it was half price - thanks again Boss!

I mounted a Thruxton fairing onto an 850 Commando frame as part of the lightweight 920 project.
I used all of the Triumph bits, did not re engineer anything.
Its all very well made, I didn't see how I could improve on it.
The main job was to recreate the lugs that are on the Thruxton R headstock. Once that was done all 1,933 (some exaggeration) Triumph pieces could be used as on the Thruxton R.
See page 15, about half way down.

I recall seeing this in a prior thread. We had discussed welding vs bolt on. My method requires no disassembly other than the required headlight and headlight fork mounts. The mounting is with snap around clips on the steering head that are then secured with bolts. Your technique would be preferred for a permanent mount and requires more disassembly and prep for the weld. Very nice work though. Do you have a picture of the completed bike you can post here? I'll include a picture of the hardware I modified for my bolt on.

Yes, maybe the bolt on method is preferable here. My main point is that there shouldn't be a need to re engineer the main fixings, that nifty little featherweight aluminium bird cage and all of the specialty fastenings.
I have video of a walk around of the completed bike ( and about a million photos :)

I agree completely about not molesting the bird cage. What a beautiful job you did! I watched the riding video and saw the side picture. You not only used a fairing but also the seat and tail cover from Thruxton. I have 2 old commandos and 2 atlases in the garage waiting for action. You gave me an idea. I have an extra thruxton tail I could use. Thanks for the link.
