through bolted barells

I recently breathed upon my 750engine wich I now fear will put to much stress on the base flange of the 750 cylinder.Has any-one modified his cylinder himself or know where to have it done?I bought a Maney cylinder and pistons but do not like the look of them on a raodgoing bike so would like to put the old-style cast iron ones back on once they have been modified
I know Chris of Vendetta fame has got them (saw on his pics)

That's a tasty looking machine Lynxnsu, I had a 750 in a fairly high state of tune with standard cast iron flanged barrels and never experienced any problems, lots of guys do away with the cylinder base gasket in favour of a good sealant (not silicone) as these can get squeezed out due to crankcase flex, then things come loose and may lead to problems.
 
hi lynxnsu,many years ago i had a set of 600 dommi barrels through bolted by a guy called pete lovell in the uk(google pete lovell developments) there is some barrels still available i think for the 750,s that look like 850 types and they are through bolted,the ones i had done involved drilling the 4 holes all the way up through the fins and head gasket face and 4 cups brazed in the top to accomodate the allen headed through bolts .i dont know if he still does this mod but it might be worth a try
 
Nice tush, but it's blocking the bike :lol: Very nice, is the oil tank in the seat hump? I really like the open airy look, please post more pictures.

I have a pair of 750 bored cast iron 850 lookalikes. They came from Norvil in 2002 when I blew the engine wrecking the same Maney barrels you want to change. Pete Lovell might have a few available but it seems you are talking about modifying existing barrels similar to the Maney (Dunstall) design. Is that correct? If there is enough material to take the recessed capscrew I guess it is just a matter of accurately drilling and sizing 4 holes and replacing the case threads with steel inserts.
 
I believe the latest "750" barrels available from Andover Norton are in fact an alloy through-bolt type, similar in style to the 850 barrels?

While looking at pictures I captured from the net, I found this one which looks a LOT like your bike. You can see some frame mods to house the oil tank, but it would be nice to get it straight from the horse's mouth :mrgreen: Please post more pics.

That has to be the same bike as the first picture.
 
I will post some pics of the bike but just some info on the oil system
the oiltank is in the main yube and in that boxsection you can see in the pic
the return line is running up that main spine being held in place by ertalon baffles to prevent rattling and surging
capacity is nearly 3 liters
breathing is through a small(6mm)hole and tube just behind headstock
the most annoying mod is to get that small through tube out of the main spine beause it would block the return line and the cleaning of the tube.that large alloy filler cap on top of the box is not a fillercap but to let me clean the box inside
