Just wanted to say thank you to Yves for selling me his Alton starter kit , and for the drive modification to the engine sprocket
And for the help and advice
I got out on my norton yesterday for the first time with it fitted and what a difference it makes, tickle the carbs, touch the starter and it fires immediately
Very sorry that the only reason he sold it was because he broke his bike up for spares after the accident ,, hope you are getting better Yves and thanks again, cheers

Very nice about an e-starter. They're great for us with more "mileage"...

They're great regardless - I can remember how happy I was when I bought my first e-start motorcycle - in my mid 20's. What a GREAT bit of innovation! Couldn't figure out why a 350cc Honda had electric start but a 750 Norton Commando didn't...made no sense. Many year later I read that Norton had INTENDED the Commando to have E-start, they just couldn't make it work...but Honda could? Weird! ;)

Ha ha
There was a time when I wouldn't have stood in the same street as an electric start bike
Especially an "electric tart commando"
Oh how times change when your right knee won't work properly any more!!

Got to admit , starting one of my Italian bikes in a crowded pub lot with the button , then casually being able to get helmet and gloves on never giving the idling bike a thought until I mount and move off , is nice .... compared to the Norton’s kickstart neediness .....

The good thing is, my MkIII will still kick over with one decent kick, and tickover at just under 1,000 RPM so nicely...

Thanks Baz for the good comments, I hope thet the other buyers from my special parts will be as happy as you, I think the prices are very honest.
I will try to make a new list on "For sale" with the parts I have left.
Thanks again Baz
Yves

Very cruel, but there seems to be an element of truth unfortunately.
Every time I check the valve lash, it is right on, and I've checked the valve travel at all four rockers and it appears to be full travel at all 4 valves. Granted, I have not put 100,000 miles on it, but I'm quite certain it has a good cam. Only time I had to do a significant valve adjustment was after I re-installed the head with the new exhaust thread inserts.

...and I NEVER let the bike sit at idle.
