I searched this forum an couldn't find much on tankbags that work well on Commandos. I'm looking for a small one that fits the Roadster tank. I've got a steel tank so a magnetic mount would work fine.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

We do not sell tank bags here. Their are many many supplier that do, though. You might have better luck googleing this "magnetic motorcycle tank bag". These items are truly a matter of personal preference. Let us know what you get and share your opinion.

Better yet, search this "motorcycle parts and accessories in austin, texas" and go see them first hand.

Holy crap, man, joined in Jul 19, 2003? 29th registered user? You should know this stuff. :P

To be fair though, at only 69 posts in 9 years you are somewhat removed from the mainstream ala sd or hbt. :P

Anyhow, I like mine. It doubles in size when you unzip the layer. You can put a couple gallons of milk in there with a sack o potatoes. Filling it full of soft stuff to lay on for long trips.

Hi mgrant. I have a magnetic Cortech mini tank bag that I like very much. Has a removable map pocket, handle to carry, lanyard strap, rain cover (optional). Enough room for cell phone, bottle of water, hat, slotted hole on side if you want to connect ear phones, pencil/pen holder/key chain clip/ couple slots for paper in the top lid. Overall a very nice small bag.

I have one I got at my local Cycle Gear. Magnetic & prefix size for a Roadster tank, go to a Cycle Gear store or any similar place & check them out there are so many you'll need to pick what works for what you want to carry. I like my medium size one the best cuz Its good for day trips & has a handle to carry it with. I'll look at the brand later & tell you.

yep

that's what I got

perfect for my steel roadster tank

not too big and looks really good on there

Thanks for the recommendations. I really appreciate the useful infromation I get from this forum.

I'd researched both the Revpak and Cortech earlier, it's good to hear that both come well recommended. I'll probably go with the Cortech due to the convenience of the magnetic mount.

Just a word of caution for all you guys that take pride in the paint job, make sure the magnets are clean before mounting the bag as I discovered, to my annoyance they will pick up any metallic particles or even bits of iron ore when it's on the ground with the obvious results. :x

Magnets love paperclips, too. Picked some up at work. Some bags have shielded (toward the cargo) magnets so your hardrives or floppy discs (haha) don't get erased when stored inside.

I have the 18 Litre Cortech magnetic tank bag and I love it. It is expandable by opening up a zipper just like a suitcase and if the weather goes south and starts to rain it has a built in cover that can pull over in a jiffy. Pockets for sunglasses, Key clip, Cell phone, Map cover, I put my GPS in there sometimes. I carry my spare tinted or clear visor for the skidlid a waterbottle and some tools for the just in case. All in all a well engineered good bag that I have been real happy with. I picked up mine from G.P bikes at the Toronto bike show a couple of years ago but I have seen them at kneedraggers.com
Cheers

Thanks again for all the informative responses. After a little more research I decided to get the Cortech Mini with the magnetic mount. I don't need a lot of storage space as I do mostly day rides and it seems like this will be good for a camera, sunglasses, water bottle and other small odds and ends. I'll post on how I like it after I've used it for a bit.

I have a complete different take on this subject. I would never put anything in direct contact with the paint on my motorcycle. I have over $1,000 invested in my gas tank considering the cost of a steel tank and a good paint job. I have a small barrel bag attached to the passenger grab rail. It is good for small things. I am the treasurer for the local Euro club and I have an Aerostich courier bag that I use to carry the clubs paperwork when I ride to meetings. Very comfortable even when filled and easy to carry when off the bike. Just my .02.

My different way is to strap back pack to tank instead of my back, especially my big fiber glass one.
