Revived and old thread 84?

Missed this one originally but have to agree with the Interstate probably giving a "bigger" feel, but won't do much for position for someone taller.

I had been riding a cruiser before I got my Commando Roadster, and even having owned one in the 70's the first thing that hit me was how small the Norton is.

Back in the day it was considered a big bike...today it feels small to me. That actually was appealing after wrestling a big truck motorcycle around. My first reaction was how it felt so light and balanced...almost bicycle like. Some may take offense to that, but I don't mean it as a bad thing...it's really a good thing in terms of handling...just enough weight in the right places.

I would think it could be a little cramped for a taller rider though. I'm 5'-11" and the bike fits me just about right.

Years ago at the INOA rallies on the east coast, a couple from the Ontario Norton Owners (Pete and Cathy I think) were there. Pete was a tall man and replaced his Z plates with hand made aluminum replicas. They were made so they would reach lower. This gave him more leg room. The pegs could drag when he ran it hard in the corners, but it was just scuffed rubbers. Maybe try making plywood templates and use fender washers at the fasteners to keep them from digging into the wood. Find what can be comfortable for you, them cut it out of aluminum plate. Pete mimic the Z plate shape so well that I didn't notice it until he pointed it out to me. I found a picture of Pete on the ONO web site. http://www.ontarionortonowners.ca/membe ... urner.html It shows one side of his bike and the Z plate

I'm over 6'2" with boots on and found riding various cycles that the foot peg location mattered more than taller bars but combined gave all day all conditions ease. Peel images above fouled the factory foot pegs so tried rear sets and was happy ever after and a few lbs lighter w/o the long peg stalks. After this it was the seat thickness-softness that allowed my unpadded bottom to enjoy all day rides. Most comfortable seat seat was the taboo K/Q sofa size saddles, then Old Brits over stuffed semi sleek seats, then factory brick seats and least comfortable the sexy Corbins making me want to get off in about an hour d/t lower cheeks and upper back-arms burning ache. I really liked the T140 8" rise bars with pull back angled grips as allowed upright gentlmen posture, tucked down racer with head between hands at ear level and full standing upright on pegs to dry out after a rain or just to strench legs and body on hwy or look over tall brush and take rough impacts off road. With the big wind screen and bar sheilds Ms Peel was more smooth and comfy to me than my LS400Lexus with 6 way electric seat. Peel's comfort was/is the main reason I stuck with rebuilding her even though it was her power steering corner handling that I mention too often here.

Steve, I've never heard anyone list their height with boots included before. Is this kind of the Dynojet Horsepower version of men's height measurement?

I'm seven feet tall in my boots

dues someone sell this? or all custom? i'd think a small round tube would be light, strong and better as a brace, flattened on both ends, and drilled for holes to bolt up,

looks like there is another piece (or can't tell what its for) going from the top of the flat steel bar, straight down toward the back of the muffler

Ok enjoying being laughed at my hi heeled boy image but I don't count the heel height just the notch between sole and heel which adds ~1/2" when not wearing moccasins to mail box and back where I'd had at least 3 of life/death close calls all under 25 mph. Peel used alu bar stock as struts to protect saggy rear loop carrying ~ 100 lb of cargo over rough lumps. Once enough set backs and karmic delays survived/endured I plan to live on Peel as better than drugs or sex alone but at times combined so already have long lingering highs till I die. Life hurts enough w/o cycles involved so why would anyone put up with hi heeled style low bar cafe strains just to look like a flashy fast hooker to others. Peel's often carried 3-4 cases of beer or couple 50lb feed bags with gallon or 2 of oil jugs or parts in hard bags. LS400 was harder to get in out of than on/off Peel and about as easy to start to me. Still in recovery of failed 'puter with old photos of beer cases on rack with the silly taboo sissy bar allowing strapping stable too.

what or how did the 'pute fail? might be the hard drive is still good along with everything on it

After my whinny failure on top of failure post on decade+ of delays on family deaths, homestead, deadly crashes and Peel and Trixie and PU truck and mower and lost cars, had new shock last week to find SV650 hydrolocked with fuel blowing fuses, I tried to find online manual for SV from SVRider forum & hit the download icon that apparently was a virus hider so 'puter locked up & would only boot back up to desk top photo but no icons nor menu bar showing. So another day 100 mile+ city trip and $200 more parts money lost and still waiting to get a call to pick it up. So hopefully just simple software solution instead of burnt up HD like last year that cost $500+ for special Best Buy Geek Squad main center forenic recovery project to save photos and legal documents. I hate digital technology yet have deeper experience in the physics and work around of bad chips and hard drives that keyborad and software can't get going again. Last 6 yr had 4 total 'puter collaspes and only some online buddies with 'puter forencic careers could recover w/o spending $1000's on professional services. If I had a real job would be little delay but I'm semi retired in wilderness so barely hanging on with unpredicable work living on faith & grace alone. I'm now limping along on used laptop with Linux Mint 17 and will never go back to Windoz crap but till not up to speed on Linux so no email set up yet. My factory Trixie and SV are too uncomfortable and dangerous to joy ride on for just relaxation after work so been decade+ waiting on Peel project to get back to most comfortable seaingt and activity I can imagine and experienced. I do keep stating ya don't know what ya missing out on w/o tri-links like Peel disappearing act that could stick like locked on rails beyond the G's fatso tires in rigid frames go bonkers so was stil in 2nd stage security ease leaving the squirming sport wonders behind in my go to work commuting ease before really kicking up heels in pure solo glee that left me refreshed and energized not worn out with effort and frights. I had to get into pure dragster standing start launch posture before giving Peel the gun entering turns or I'd be left behind and almost blacked out at times but never got sore or fatiqued even so. Everyone esle in the world tends to slow down entering turns and brags on the pull out of them, pahsaw Peel would about blind me into apexes so exits were less dramatic pull as runing out of power band on upshifts so relaxing anti-climax exits completely opposite of all other cycles I've tried or tired against sofa ccmfy Peel. I may of lost touch with rest of ya'lls reality but sure don't want a cure.

doesn't sound like you have backup, once you do and if done right (basically, at least 2 HDs), any 'pute failures/problems are nothing more than yawns,

i remember reading about a 2 hd setup in one 'pute, the 2nd hd was just to back up the first, one day the power supply failed where there was a surge that took out both HDs,

a proper backup is at least 2 levels deep

Ugh 84ok I've a Tera bite external 'brick with all the stuff from last few 'puter crap outs to burn ups, not counting a couple Toshiba laptops I put in new screens but now wasted money trash. Geek Squad stuck it to me double dose on 'back ups' as takes 6 levels of files deeper to access stuff *after* getting to root dir level of directories and avioiding a a few side branched files with similar labeling that dead end to empty files. Method Geeks showed me to get to archived email references from dead buddies and all only brings up subject lines but will not open to read so more doo doo to learn once I get used to Linux and new tower someday this year. Then must learn or have done recovering the saved stuff on lap tops I purposely avoided putting very much on but saved URLs. When 'puter operation left the simple DOS plain text commands for mousy shell icon cover ups I gave up keeping up. Plan is dump all the data from all sources into reformated brick once I learn more digital ropes. BTW nothing beats feet forward stretch outs lean backs now and then which far as I know only Ms Peel has attained as foot pegs on close up crash bars still leave long fella knees bent. So I'm looking forward to easy chair comfort on a sports bike tester and dirt bike blaster long range heavy cargo hauling stunt Commando low rider with sub woofers, deer blunderblusses and ambidexerous flair piston for dogs running up and under.
