Tach seized up

Well crap... I just put in a brand new tach cable on my Atlas, started right up and headed out for a ride. Tach was working just fine until about about 500 feet from my house when it stopped. So I turned around, went home and pulled into the garage. I pulled the cable off the tach and it had snapped! The tach is completely seized up. This really irritates me because I thought that it was working fine. I just put a new bezel and glass on it over the winter.

What could make these seize up? Is that fairly common? I think that I will go without a tach for the moment. Tooo many other fish to fry at the moment.

No grease on the cable :!:
I do not trust any new cable, I always get my marigolds out and grease up the cable ¾ of the way up :!:

I greased the cable before I installed it. The actual tachometer is seized. Won't turn at all now which is presumably why I snapped the first cable then consequently the second. /quote]

Exactly what happened to me with a speedometer newly rebuilt by that guy who advertises on eBay. A surly soul .
