T140 side stand snapped

I have a t140 side stand fitted to my t160
I prefer the t140 stand as it's straighter and keeps the bike a little more upright
But today I was just getting off the bike with the stand down and it snapped like a carrot
It fell against me knocking me over in the road it must have looked hilarious 🤣🤣
I tried to stop it but just bowled me !
After I looked at the side stand I could see it has snapped where the return spring pole screws into the stand
I'm wondering if this stand is genuine?
Or if they changed the design at some point because all the other t140 and t160 stands have the spring pole welded on ?
And looking at it I'm guessing it'd been breaking for some time

Every one I've ever worked on was steel.

Some bogus shit there.

I agree
It was sold to me as a t140 stand but who knows
What I can't get get over is the stress raiser of a threaded hole in that position!!!

A chrome "dress-up" accessory?
 
Not good Baz hope your alright. I remember looking for T160 stands for my other bikes back in the day as I loved how my T160 looked layed over like that. Always wondered if the bike was at risk from the stand snapping but more from wearing the frame mount.

They do look cool laying over
But I have to get my bike out into a 3ft wide alley on a steep hill
And the bike pokes the hand grip and clutch lever through a wire fence while I close the gate with the standard stand
It's the bane of my life that alley!!
 
Kept mine in the hall once waggled the handlebars left & right to get through the door frame!
That didnt last long.

I bought a cb750 once from a tower block in south London
It was on the balcony of the 8th floor
Once we'd wrestled it through the flat we tried to get it in the lift but it wouldn't fit
Then the bloke remembered he'd brought it up in the other lift which had a coffin alcove
So with the front wheel pulled into that the bike fitted
Got some real funny looks on the ground floor when the door opened !!
I still remember loading it into the van the whole time getting pelted with stones and god knows what from the kids up in the flats
Lovely area!!!
 
They are a heavy old beast. Putting them up on the centre stand is a job for flat concrete or
a younger man with a few more pounds of muscle than I have. Side stands seem to wear the
lug and the bike leans over evermore.

My '79 T140 sidestand has the same part number as your broken stand. The spring post looks to be welded in, and there is no 'bulge' where the spring post is fixed.

Also noticed the centre stand on your bike has been braced and gusseted. I have the same modification on my T140's centre stand.
 
Used to work for the greater London Council the GLC & remember meeting the undertaker & removing the panel in the back of lift for the coffin to vo into.

But I really can't remember
It was over 40 years ago

Yep I have two over stands like this and they have welded pins
I braced the centre stand when it split in half

Same thing happened to me when the center stand on my 750 broke in half. I had just gotten it up and over on the stand and the bike started to lean into me. My brain kind of shorted out trying to figure out why I was holding the weight of the bike up when it was on the stand. It was like a giant dog that just got too friendly. It slowly crushed me into the floor and probably, as you say, looked hilarious. My reworked center stand had lost of bracing added.
