I am curious if any of you encountered this or is it a normal Norton occurrence.

I was taking apart my headlight bucket and noticed a brand new set of factory keys taped to some of the wiring inside. I asked the guy i bought the bike from and he had no idea as the headlight had not been taken apart ever.

Did Norton do this on every machine? Mine is a 1975 MKIII.

Sounds like a POSSIBILITY that the bikes were delivered either from the factory to the distributor, or from the distributor to the dealers, with the keys in the headlight shell.

I sure as heck can't confirm it one way or the other.

Maybe the keys fit a treasure box buried somewhere in Commandoland and your job is to find it?

some riders will put an extra key somewhere on the bike just in case they loose thier's on a ride.

True, but inside a headlight shell? I can think of many more places to cenveniently place a spare key than inside the headlight shell, where a screwdriver is needed to access the internals.

Besides, all 3 keys were there and not just the ignition key.

All three keys ? Do you think this means that the blasted seat locks aren't meant to match the ignition ? Could well be because I've rummaged through boxes of dealer stocks and never managed to find a matched pair. The closest I've found is a pair of FS's seven digits out !

Rivet Counter ? Who, Me ?

The seat key is similar in profile but slightly shorter than the steering head lock key on my MK 3. I think the ignition key is the shortest of the three (3) keys.

Strange that you would need three keys to operate a motorcycle.
