super nice Rickman

Interesting ... 1969 model?? The Rickman brothers built their bikes from 200 left over power plants after first RE and then Clymer stopped production of bikes. This was 1971 and 72. Some were available new from dealers in 73 too.
That doesn't mean the engine gearbox might not be from 69.

I had one of those Rickman Enfields back in the late '70s. It was a really great bike, except for the transmission, which was really clunky and slow to shift. I'd been spoiled by the Commando gearbox by then, and the Enfield was so much worse by comparison. Still, it had good power, handled superbly, and had great brakes (all for the time, of course!).

I bought a 5 speed from Hitchcock along with the BNR clutch. Insane money but I just had to
see what an Enfield is like when it can shift. That it is just a S2 and not a Rickman is a shame
but half a loaf and all that.
Rickmans are now reaching "too expensive to ride" level.

Tractor like in operation but not in construction or material.
Strip it just for the fun of seeing how poorly conceived it is.
Few gearboxes are worse.
...and this from a Enfield enthusiast.

Yes an improvement in that it shifts positively and easily. The bar is not very high. That is the gearbox. The clutch is short lived if you drive hard. It just isnt up to flogging level. The BNR clutch is qood and strong and simple and light. Both five speed box and BNR clutch cost money though.
The Interceptor is not a strong engine but it does have very good torque and is fun whilst it lasts.
An eccentric taste really. I have two so you can see Ill be living under a bridge in the near future.

This is the one I had back in the early '70s. I paid something right around $3000 for it, and later sold it for a bit more, maybe $3500. Just one of may bikes that could have funded my retirement nicely if I could have saved them all for today's prices.

super nice Rickman

I always liked the neutral finder lever. When I went to school in Ithaca NY there was usually a blue Rickman Enfield parked in front of Morrie's on Eddy St. when I'd be coming home from classes. This was around '72 or '73.
