Start protocol quandry ?

I"ve had good intervals of no smoke and also interval of smoking on start ups, so have Norton attitude opposite the saying about times of no smoke vs no money...

Trixie smokes again but alternates sides, ie: only one side smokes much or a lot but not same one as day before. Today both did but cleared up before engine fully warmed on slow roll to mail box and back. Trixie will start up and idle w/o hardly any smoke but on the blip ups or holding nearly 2000 rpm to protect cam while wet sump emptied and oil draining from head on lifters.

So is it better to rev up till clouds of smoke. maybe risking plug or ring or guide carbonizing or just let it idle slower til nil smoke on blip up past the over oiling interval? I of course perfer to rev up around 2000 - after not seeing hardly any ferric dust on sump magnet since I talked my self out of thinking of Trixie as a live animal but a machine with different warm up needs.

Hobot ,let Trixie try out the new Vapourizer method. :wink: Crazy Combat's 1st rebuild start-up produced enough assembly oil smoke to drift over and into neighbour's open basement window to send her running over to give me an earfull ! Other than that I'd say contemplate a valve job or just live with it until end of season.

Aw Tronto, you must of missed my Trixie saga which was smoke free perfect ring sealing by dry method hi rpm before the full oil flow hit head and drained to cam on initial run in a couple years ago. The source of the smoking is d/t new filter boots cracking in a year so grit ate the rings and scored the bores so re - ring'd with just a touch up on .0 40 over bores. She was again smoke less for a few months but my cut down boot sealing or lack of, failed too but caught in time before smoking for long, so far.

Question is to avoid lost ride time on such a mild 30-40 sec. annoyance, what might be the better = less internal oil burning carbon on warm up -
rev her till smoke quits or smokeless slow idle warm up till ride off invisible.

My confusion [on this instant narrow subject] is in past if over fueled or over oiled the plugs tended to foul at slow rpm unless I blipped up a good bit. I've got more plugs and can peer into holes for carbon crud so may find out and let ya know.

Sorry Hobot, have missed the previous Trixie thready as have been off the planet for the past 3 months into Thailand then Burma then Amsterdam renting a total of 7 Exciters and Dreams to get about on 2 wheels. No Shit. Smoke be seriously bad news over there, but you can be drunk as a skunk no problem, real cheap too, alcohol conspiracy lobbying issue perhaps ? Smoke on.
