Slash on con rod shaft and bottom end

Given the recent failure of con rod/bolt/nut, my team is concerned with the slash that identifies which con rod shaft connects with which con rod bottom end. I believe these slashes - on all four con rods - are original but could have a P.O. marked these con rods and thus weakened to point of failure? The depth of one slash is of concern.

Sounds like we need photos for comparison .

The slashes face forward, and should be inscribed so that you cannot mix them up.

That's not a weak area on the rod or cap. The caps in particular are quite chunky there and an area for weight reduction in balancing.
