Hi guys, what's the best way to remove the silentbloc bushes on a slimline featherbed please David

Have you considered not removing them?

Some people burn the rubber out. Then you usually have to slit the outer sleeve, though you could quickly get it red hot with oxy-acetylene, which would probably loosen its grip.

These are known to last a lifetime!

I had my swing arm off after 85K miles, and over 50 years since new. I could find no reason to go thru the hassle of replacing them.

"Leave them alone"

That was the advice I was given which I failed to heed because I wanted to powder coat the frame and swing arm.

Here were my steps;
1. Burned out the rubber with a torch.
2. Spent hours with a hacksaw blade splitting the outer sleeves while watching out for the spacer in the center.
3. Cleaned the ID of the swing arm with a small ID sanding tube
4. Took the parts to work (I used the press at work)
5. Put the new silentblocs in a freezer
6. Pressed in the first bushing (press was 10 tons, old and it took every ummph that old press had to get them in)
7. Put in the center spacer and Pressed in the second one

In order to get the bushings in I had to make a pressing tool and a special lower support.

Would I do it again?
HELL NO, I'd just paint the swing arm with solvent-based paint

Hi
I agree with the previous replies, If you cannot find any movement, and or they look okay, leave them in.
On my 650SS build I left them in because of past experience of having to remove them for no gain, and wasted money, although I still bought a set just in case, and they are still sitting in the box they came in.
Bike handles very nicely as well :D
