Running problem

But not iridium. This makes a difference according to Egli.
Raphi
According to the NGK website a CR7EIX is iridium - and a fair bit hotter than a CR9EIX.

I run a BR8EIX in my high compression (10.8:1) Norton 500 single.
Cured the problems I was having with B8ES.

As far as I understand it : the 7 is quite a hotter plug (so with a lower heat range). That's why I was suprised Raphi said he was running a 7 in his 961...
Iridium should give a nicer spark than non iridium, right ?

As I understand it, it’s actually the smaller electrode that gives a Moreno powerful spark, and iridium smaller electrode possible (without melting it away).

I run them in the 961 cos I run them in all my bikes, I have noted distinctly better running when I’ve used them in my old bikes. And they last longer.

But spark plugs are like oil, and ignition systems, and tyres, and beer... everyone has their own favourite.

Well depends on the look of your plugs. Mine were fine last time I checked (which is quite a while ago...) and up to date I didn’t get holes burnt into the pistons! And the 961 is not really a racing bike with very high cylinder temperatures, is it?

Not sure about that Raphi... 961cc twin cylinder... 10.1:1 CR... and air cooled... I’d say it might get pretty warm in there...

So iridium are not as good for our machines?
I manage 112 car parts stores and our iridium plug manufacturers call for their plugs over prior plugs of lessor value for the same engine specs all the time for older vehicles. Iridium over platinum even with the same manufacture over standard plugs. Can't see them doing that if they were not sure if better is better.

I put the iridiums in yesterday (old plugs looked spot on). Bike started fine, ran fine, can't say I noticed any difference EXCEPT when I roll off the throttle and slow down using engine breaking it's as though the whole ignition has cut out, it hasn't, it just feels as though the engine isn't firing at all, it still occasionally backfires and burbles to let me know it's still alive, it just sort of feels 'smoother' off throttle. I can't really put my finger on it.
