I have a large collection of leaky fuel taps. Most of them need replacement rubber parts (I assume). They are pretty evenly split between BAP and the traditional looking ones with the cylindrical valve in a rubber sleeve. The problem is that they leak when turned off. Some leak fuel down the pipe, some leak fuel out the side.

Is there a source for replacement rubber parts for fuel taps ?

Thanks

Greg

I still have my original taps that came with the 69. I went to the auto store and they sold me a 10 pack of gas resistant o-rings, and the taps are working fine. Trouble is the brass part wears out and that is hard to fix. So far I haven't had that issue.

This season was a disaster for fuel taps. The ethanol they are putting in the gas eats the rubber o rings which are then washed down into the fuel filter. By this time the taps are puking gas which was typical with all styles of tap which used the rubber o ring seal. The earlier solid brass taps were better but did weep gas and were hard to turn. Just got some new ones in from Walridge which milled from a solid billet. Have not tried them yet but they do show promise.

I recently made some inquiries about replacement rubber internals for the BAP taps. They have a rubber sealing surface with raised bosses that gets worn from the sliding action of the shutoff valve. Old Britts, who sells BAP, told me that the rubber internals are not available separately. I think that in general the BAP taps are far more reliable than the original tapered brass taps with the o rings, but obviously not as repairable. Too bad.

Try fitting a pair of ball valves they last or ever.
If you need details drop me a line.

following a leisurely trip through the beautiful Providence metro area, dodging potholes and schoolbusses, the local Vespa dealer shows me two differing sizes in a catalog. I ordered one of each and will let you know which one fits.

I have this one to show, purchased from the local Vespa dealer. It hasn't been installed to say for sure but when held against the tap it does look like the correct item although red in color vs the black of the original.
Available from at least this outfit http://www.scooterworks.com/Packing-4-H ... 5C418.aspx
no relationship, one thing though, their diameter description seems incorrect, see this photo.

And the replacement strainer sock is available from Walridge catalogue 2010 page 32 item 06-7266F.
All said and done, BAP units I have purchased are in use without problems. Not period I know, but functional.
If anyone needs replacement wear parts they do seem to be available.

With Baps, you can usually get away with turning the rubber round once.
