I BELIEVE you can retrofit all the rear disc brake, left foot shift and e-start primary onto earlier model 850s (and 750s, with some effort).

Certainly wouldn't be unheard of to have a "bitsa"!

Engine cradle, swingarm, gearbox & primary, and bit of wiring for the e-start. If someone wanted to change a '73 into a MKIII it would be possible.

We need pics.
As I understand it the MKIII has a wider crank and engine cases which may have to be figured in when aligning the chain case.

Something weird going on here. That engine / frame number is 850 Mk2. If it has Mk3 primary cases then the engine cases have to be Mk3 because the inner primary case has 4 bolts to the left case where as Mk2 has 3 bolts. You can't marry them up unless you do a heck of a lot of welding and milling? And the Mk3 cases are slighlly wider too. The timing side engine case has a flat deck alongside the barrel near tacho drive, where as the Mk2 has a indent casting (to collect the oli leaking out of the tacho drive...nice design touch) I think someone has built up this bike and re-stamped the engine case and frame with a Mk2 probably destroyed in order to keep it licensed?
The factory records show Mk3 start at Engine 325001 and Frame F125001.

Thanks for the info,I'll try and get a photo in the near future-believe me this things rough, think I mislead you guys when I said dual disc brakes...I meant single disc in front + disc in back.... :(

I think we've seen rough before. Try us.

Yeah, take a look at that "most improved" thread's "before" pics....

I like the design of the seat (Triumph?). It appears that there is no rib to put pressure on a person's inner leg.

The first photo, although rather blurred appears to show the plate is fixed with steel or alloy pop rivets instead of the normal brass "hammer drive" rivets?

So I think there's a chance that the plate probably didn't originally belong to that frame? Unfortunately I can't see enough details in the photos because of the blurring to say if it is a MkIII frame or not? Some better detail shots of the areas around the upper shock mounts would confirm this?

Also the frame's part number should also be stamped on the front face of the left hand fuel tank mounting bracket? That part number will be different for '73, '74 and '75 frames.

That's not a Mark III airbox, and as has already been noted, that's a late model OIF Triumph seat.

The front end is definitely tweaked. Frame might be damaged as it appears too steeply raked (might just be a photo-optical illusion).

Non-MkIII parts I can see are:

Front wheel
Front mudguard/fender (could be cut-down?)
Instrument housings
Lower yoke/triple tree
Handlebar switchgear, throttle, levers & brackets
Fuel tank
Left side cover
Airbox
Seat (Triumph)
Ignition switch housing
Exhaust system
Gear shift lever

However, the right hand crankcase does appear to be a MkIII item (but the left hand case may not be!)

Also, the headlamp brackets are fitted on the wrong sides, so they are upside down!

Don't know,I would say if that color is avial.in a rattle can..then yes.Have been trying to decide which route to take on this (back to orig.or Colorado Norton style custom) since this appears to be a bunch of mismatched parts I may go the latter...
Any insight as to a website that has photos of custom Nortons.. :(
