rocker spindles

hi cant seem to find this anywhere oil hole in spindels same side as flat side? i put a small tool inside spindle the intake spindle oil hole points backwards the exhaust oil hole points forward is this right? just put new pistons and rings head checked out ok just rebuilt 6 months ago maybe 700 miles by last owner double checking things. runs pretty good still backfires out carb sometimes single conversion like its starving put choke on runs better.pull plugs look black like there fouling. any advice would be appreciated thanks mike

yes this is correct for commando and late atlas with high pressure top end oiling.

bill thanks, also have 72 combat, trying to eliminate things cant seem to stop oil leaks from front valve covers, engine case below carb and triangle plate where new breather mod.would go. would installing this second breather relieve more pressure to help with oil leaks?i know this mod. is to eliminate orig. breather and machine cases for better oilflow. didnt want to split cases now. any other suggestions? thanks mike

Mine does not leak but I have done ALL the oil pickup and breather mods. First is split the cases and FIX the pickup point, next is blank off the rear breather as crank rotation forces oil to the point where the breather is and will impede air flow out of the engine. you will have to drill the timing side case to allow air movement to the timing chest so the 850 style breather will work. Last is to install a one way valve as close to the engine as possible. the thinking is to keep the least amount of air that you have to move the easier it is to control.
If you chose not to split the cases you might try blanking off the original breather and just do the timing breather mod but like I said you WILL have to drill the connecting holes on the timing side case.
