What do you mean?

Do you mean the thread has stripped, so you need to cut a completely new thread (preferably for a thread insert, Helicoil etc.)?

Or, just to clean up the existing thread?

Hi Les.
The Hole is stripped.
I dont like to use elicoil and prefer to make an insert from a bronze bar 8 mm OD to rethread into with a tap that should be 1/4" x 20 BSW.
Is it the correct tap?.
What drill i must use for the tap?.

5.1mm.

I guess 5mm would be fine if you tap it out with a steady hand.
