Juicy thread Glen!! I for one will be following the build of this beauty for sure.... Surely you have a cNw e-start in mind for this, right? Not exactly fitting the extra lite theme but definitely seems worth its weight.
I'm hoping to be able to kick start the bike. Might steal the kicker from the MK3 as I have only used the button on that bike for quite awhile now.

wouldn't it be nice if you could get the norton gas cap with an alloy neck...
The cap is a 2.5" Monza alloy from a UK supplier, same cap as the one I used on the Egli tank.
Judging by the low price( $50+-) I suspect it was made in India. It's very well made though.
They only had steel filler necks, no alloy so the Monarch lathe & threading setup got some use.

The alloy will handle the loads imposed by the swingarm?

(hey, just asking, I'm not a metallurgist)
I think so!

It is made from 7075, the aircraft alloy.
A bit crap for welding I'm afraid, but great stuff for stiffness.

Not a very convincing answer I know, but then I was fired from my Space Shuttle job years ago. :)

The tank is a piece of artwork. Did you destroy your wife's favorite chair achieving it? o_O

As I said, I'm not a metallurgist, so you just keep on beating on that tank!

I am contemplating using a newer style flush cap and just welding an alloy ring to which i can bolt any make of gascap, now adays we actually do consider safety, ( nothing like catching your twins on the gascap as you sail over the handle bars...

your work is impressive. Attaboy.

Nice work Glen as usual, yes the Truxton tanks look good as well the fairing kits for them they fit so well together, the Thruxton's look fast even when parked.

Trimmed on one side. I do this with the snips which, with this 063", is like using a really tough wrist exerciser. One side was enough for tonight. I'm happy with the shape and size.
You have some mad skillz brother. We're all jaw dropping here. I did some sheetmetal repairs on a car restoration some years ago and one of the best investments I made was an electric shear (Milwaukee I think). Beats killing your hands and wrists.

Mamma Mia!
From the looks of that tank I would say we should send you to India/Pakistan to teach those tin knockers working for EMGO just how to build a tank.
Beautiful work.

If you hadn’t mentioned Emgo I’d have agreed.

Emgo are made Taiwan, and made on tooling, and are actually very accurate.
