Well Trixie and I are quite dead in the shed now. Its another case of two or more things happening at once, each able to cause identical symptoms all by itself. I found clutch nut loose so assumed that somehow allowed too tight a primary chain to let clutch tip bind plates and unbind in perfection. Over tight triplex is famous for hard shifting, but Trixie was sweet prior. Got Kicker on to find it stuck up but was fine just prior, swing freedom wise, just noisey slippage. Was able to shift up/dn but in N bike had drag to roll yet the clutch was not turning and no noise for any clue. In gear was able to roll to turn engine, so clutch plates engaging that much. Was able to free KS by literally kicking it but still has unnatural drag but spring now returns it fully. Kickstarting gives same grinding teeth slippage sound on enough thrust to actually start but will go over one TDC by slowly moving KS. I loosened the bottom pivot bolt so don't think case binding is a factor. No more riding till lots more sweat swearing and pains and strains re=un-doing it all and deeper still till corrected or I give up. All this is directly my fault somehow while just replugging a primary mount bolt that was my fault it came out even with the my mean torque practice. Didn't feel any pain strain attending on floor fighting covers on and off but hours later trying to rest neck tightened just short of pain or H/A but prevented good rest. It will take a number of those after effects before I ever ride Trixie again. ugh.

Clutch center grooved?

Clutch center splines are still pretty good and smooth, certainly not like I've had em prior and still worked fine. Put hand on exposed clutch as I stepped on KS for grinding slip sound but the clutch didn't slip nor cause the grinding sound, so issue seems to be in tranny and in me so Cdo depressed to point lawn mower and home have more priority so may be fall before I get around too it, if ever again. Depending on how you measure a rebuild in portions or all at once, This event could add up to a 5th Trixie rebuild since 2006 with less than 4 yr in riding condition. On other hand may be saving my life from ride hazards so why hurry into that.

Steve, sorry to hear Trixie has soiled the sheets. As a consolation, I remember 45 years ago, Dad rigged a string to override the governor  on our old PowerKraft 2-stroke lawnmower, in the tall neglected grass, we could wrap it up faster and get a bit more power. This may help feed the need for speed in the interim. Chip away at it, an hour every couple days..

I think Robert Pirsig would have referred to this as a "gumption block". Give it a rest, but please don't despair. Your unconscious mind will process this without you being aware of it, then one day, the light bulb will go off. The human brain works this way. I'm sure most of us have experienced this with unsolvable problems that suddenly become fixable.
