Rear Wheel Sprocket Changed and other ideas

That's OK , You have officially been freed from bondage . No more Norton worries or hand wringing . You gave it a good go , and we will let you know what happens beyond the 20,000 mile event horizon .

Actually, I’m not completely free of the bondage...

I just swapped to a CNW 19T front sprocket last week (stock 50T front), and I'm loving it. Makes the bike much pleasanter to ride at higher speeds, and still has more than enough power for good first gear starts on hills. Also makes the speedo a bit more accurate:). I might even try one or two less teeth on the rear when it comes time to replace it.

I gear up for the long trips . It makes the interstate easier too. I found all of that true about the speedo accuracy , with 47T my speedo was spot on 50 to 85 mph. I used a 47T rear though . I wouldn't go any higher than 47T Rear for my tastes and actually th 48 T rear being perfect. I am trying to do a quick change rear sprocket , If Norton would just send me the sprocket carrier assy I ordered !

I figure that if I re-introduce this subject once every 12 months I will eventually get around to making a decision ref fitting a 17T front sprocket! Or just bore everybody into submission!

Tony put me off a little when last we discussed this, with references to revving the nuts off the bike and bouncing off the rev limiter! The significant additional ‘umph‘ would be very welcome though, given that I don’t tour or care about top end performance. It’s a CR after all and all about thrashing around the twisties. I also have minor concerns with the fragility of the bike in some areas and wonder if this is even a consideration when going down one tooth on the front sprocket.

Happy with the experience you shared last time Tony, I know you made the swap for a couple of months. Just looking for further feedback.

Is anybody out there currently running a 17T front drive sprocket?

Thanks.

Steve.

OK Steve , its like this . The bike's performance /acceleration really quickens. I stated that I thought it could reduce the quarter mile time by 1/2 second. I was not joking . BUT , the fuel mileage is reduced and revs are up everywhere I ride it. I take a lot of trips and my normal cruising speeds have the revs up 300 to 400 rpm . BUT , if you are looking for a performance enhancement this is it ! It hustles through the gears . The speedo reads way high though , 62-63 reads 70mph. Raphi is the only member I know who is running a 17T full time. You can PM him. I have not seen Raphi around lately.

Thanks Tony, have’nt seen Raphi for a while either. I’ll PM him as you suggest. Might as well just give it a go. I suspect that it will work well for my weekend blasts around the hinterland. Need all the help I can get when you are riding with guys on hyper bikes (where did that category of bikes come from lol!).

There is very little chatter about this as a performance mod which is a surprise to me, but I guess that we all use our bikes differently. I go nowhere near the highway; that is a form of torture with the CR configuration. It is all up and down the gears on the twisties. That’s where the fun is!;)

Thanks again Tony.

Steve.
