Rear brake drum (2011)

I just think it was a poorly made drum, the complete casting around the circlip mount just broke away and I say it was made in India as my new sprocket/drum is made in England and is all steel and not cast Iron, I am still running the same wheel bearing, spacers and everything else that goes in it and the circlip is still sitting in the same place I just machined it deeper for a larger circlip.

Well its been over 5 years now since I repaired this drum circlip and is still working as good as when I machined it, I have got my money worth out of this sprocket, I still have the new sprocket/drum still stitting under my work bench, I haven't been riding my Norton as much these days since burying my new Thruxton, but this repair, has about 24,000 miles on it now but have replaced the chain when it threw a link, but the rear spocket teeth are still good, not sure how long this sprocket has been on the Norton now, I know its been a very long time be intresting to see how long it will last before the new one goes on but it has well over 50,000 miles on it, still running the same bearings.

Well blow me down, its been over 11 years ago since I did this repair job on my old drum/sprocket, its still on my Norton and the new drum/sprocket is still sitting under my work bench, just amazing that a simple and easy machine fix on the lathe and a $3.50 circlip, that repair job would have well over 35k miles on it now, I love it when a plan goes well.

You are making my decision to recently get a new drum look very dumb! Lucky for me is was part of a parts/labour "refund" from a shop that messed up my alt/rotor by leaving the lock washer off the rotor nut.

Was thinking to swap in new drum as original with 18k miles is showing some shark toothing on the sprocket. Chain still seems well fitted, can not pull it away from teeth more than 1/4 of a link thickness. Just did new sealed bearings and Madass's one piece axle. Seems all good.
