Hi All,

Happy New Year! :D
Is there any tricks to installing/ replacing the Primary/ Mainshaft felt seal. I do have the inner cover off the bike at the moment.
It seems a quite delicate little bastard, I dont want to mess it up!

Thanks in advance for know procedures, in how to do this properly.

Brewer.

Oil it up nicely, and find a piece of PVC pipe the same size as the seal's metallic shoulder, then tap it in using a rubber or rawhide mallet.

It should end up just flush with the outer case lip.

Hi Grandpaul,
:?
I am confussed! I think you are referring to the gearbox countershaft Garter seal?
Please forgive me if I am wrong!

I am actually talking about installing a new felt seal into the steel discs that are able to slide when you adjust the primary chain tension. these discs are attached to the inner primary cover- the gearbox mainshaft passes through these discs.
The seal type is shaped like a "o" ring. but made of felt.

Brewer,
Drench the felt seal in motor oil and compress it flat in a vice between two small sheets of metal, leave it for ten minutes and it will remain sufficiently compressed to get it to fit into the sliding discs.

Okay, Thanks Dave.
I did what you said!.... and then gently worked it in with a very little flat screwdriver and extreme care.... I then kneeded it fully home in its groove with my thumb , until it was a consistant circle all the way around.

Many thanks,

Brewer.
