Ps that bavarian thing has got some treatment your NORTON should have got , you looked after frame mods and even diff front suspension , stop wasting money on that ugly thing and invest in that beauty you have
Blueprinting a std NORTON can produce some fast and tricky machinery

LOL, Ugly? It's a beaut.

The Norton is more than blueprinted. It's got 10.5 comp Hepolite pistons, Axtel cam, 36mm Mk2 carbs, the rods and pistons are within 0.1 grams, and it's got a nice gas flow job.

58 rear wheel horsepower ain't bad for a 750, and if I really wanted to go much further I'd be wanting a beefier crank, rods and crankcases.

Sorry did not mean to upset you , i think it is a personal thing
bm's are quite common over here and quite bulletproof (too bulletproof for my liking) , so one sees these things far more than Nortons and they can be easily converted to caferacerspec without doing too much on the engine.so they act as a red rag to a bull on me .

Still I find it hard to believe an engine with the specs you gave is slower than that other vehicle
my own road bike has got std crank and cases and i have to find a bm wich i cannot shake loose (cr is 9.5 so lower than yours)But then they never seem to know wich way is the right way to take a bend...

CNW is offering a service now for coating the barrels with a heat disapating coating. Stripping, boring, honing and coating which includes a long heat treatment is somewhere around 350 bucks if I remember correctly from a conversation with Matt.

(Let's see that raises the cost of my engine rebuild to about 4350...)

Give Matt a call if you are interested as you shouldn't trust my memory on it.

I have also been looking at POR-15 engine paint, anybody ever try it?

Hey , no offence taken. we all have our tastes and I can understand why some people don't like BMWs. I started racing one almost out of cussedness because everyone told me it was a stupid idea. At the first race I did back in England, they were laughing at me in the scrutineering queue with comments like," Where are the panniers" and "Is it as slow as a Police BM?" ..... I came third out of 36 in that race and went on to win plenty of races which was very satisfying.

Your's looks very nice. What's that tank?

My favourite circuit is still Chimay.

Thanks for the info, but I think the delivery to and from Australia might be a bit expensive :)

I have used the POR 15 engine paint on cars, with good relults. No experience on bikes. For paint in a can it is quite thick and sticky. The Chevy orange is self leveling and quite shiny when dry.

Pomie,
/try a mob called competition coatings, should be one up in sunny QLD they do black and other colours, even silver that looks like alloy, sort of. A mate has the silver on some 4 into one headers, and it seams very durable. I had the 850 barrels done before last rebore, I wanted a glossy black, like original. This is a process designed to remove heat from parts. So is the right thing to do. Some old iron engine Harley and Indian guys swear by it.

Hope this helps, Richard

I don't care what the "experts" say about it being okay to powdercoat cylinders, I DISAGREE.

Powdercoating DEFINITELY holds heat in. NOT GOOD in air-cooled bikes.

Logic is what it is, opinions are what they are.

I'm with you there.

Powder not a good idea for parts which need to dissipate heat............PJI used to do epoxy rattle can paint for this, but not sure its made now?

Hey Lynx,

I don't think I'd be alone in saying I'd like to see some more photos of your bike, and larger pics as well. Very unique and well done, especially using what appears a fairly stock frame. Post 'em, would love to see more!
