You guys will all say " serve's you right" :!:
Having travelled 160 miles to collect my 72 Roadster, i was quite surprised when i first saw it in the flesh.
Looked great on the EBAY and described as "Lovely " "Better than some 5 year old bikes" First thing i saw was the oil patch, and black oil at that!
Getting down on my knee's and looking underneath.....Welding on the case's. Rod exit.and the oil was dripping from there!
Kick start was about to fall off, tyres where Grey OLD TT100's, under the fork gatters...Rust!

I asked the guy...what he ment in the ad..."gone through front to back" he shrugged his shoulders saying "well i looked it over"
I left it in the curb, still dripping
Complete tosser with only a quick buck on his mind....No more Ebay "pig in a bag's" for me...ever!!!!!
He as relisted it....sounds even better :!:
 
Unless an Ebay bike is close enough to take a good look before bidding, its madness to pay any more than spares money, as very often the bike is likely to be very poor and in need of a complete rebuild!

The fact that a lot of buyers are prepared to take Ebay ads at face value though, does lead to sellers asking and in many cases getting top money for complete rubbish.

OUCH! OUCH, yes i should have known better :oops:
But still alive and kicking [my self] Pity the guy who does buy it, i bet its a real horror inside!
 
The seller seems to be a real shyster, but I can see some unfortunate buyer paying a lot of money for that wreck!
 
Sounds like a classic Ebay Special. :shock: Ebay sellers seem to be skilled at making their bikes look good in the photos, but all too often the beauty is only skin deep. I've been burned more than once on ebay bikes (I'm a slow learner) but I try to avoid the temptation now.

John, perhaps you can hook up with a local Norton club and put the word out that you're in the market. Someone in the club can probably refer you to a good bike.

hi Debby, I have narrowed my field to 30 miles,so i can look before bidding! there is good bikes out there...But a look is paramount first!
 
It's amazing how eBay has got us used to even the very idea of buying a bike from a private seller on the basis of a few photographs. Years ago, it was rush home with 'Motor Cycle Weekly' and 'MCN on a Wednesday morning and frantically start phoning those within travelling distance in the hope of being the first one there. There was no question of paying without seeing the thing first.

I must say, this one does look quite tidy.
 
I won't say, "serves you right", I'll say "good on ya" (for not buying it).
Save your pennys and make us all real jealous.....Order one from Norvil...AC.

That's the problem...."Looks tidy" surprising what a jet washer and half an hour with Auto polish can do :!:
 
Hi All

I have brought a few bikes off Ebay, but will travell to check them out, you don't have to buy if they turn out not as decribed, I brought a 1980 BMW RS100R 8 years ago and had to travell 800ks to pick it up, I still own it and it has been a every day ride except sence the Norton has been back on the road, so I have been lucky so far, I have also got lots of cheap Norton parts on ebay and taken them to swap meets and double my money with them, you just got to know what the parts are worth and don't over bid on then but the best thing is to look at their Feed Back to see what other poeple who have had dealings with them, there are still a lot of honest poeple around who do use Ebay to sell things...

There are plenty of honest Ebay users, but probably even more people keen to make a lot of money by selling tarted up wrecks! Having a good read of the description will often tell you a lot about the seller, and avoid wasting time going to view rubbish.
 
We don't have Ebay here in New Zealand, but I have bought a few bikes from pics on the local version. Generally better than described. I bought my Commando this way but had a long chat with the owner on the phone. True thought... I used to get up real early and be the first one there in person to look at a vehicle, would never have dreamed of buying of a few pics and a flowery real estate agents blurb. Saying that a couple of mates have been burnt in the VW Kombi ( bus) bubble here....paid good money for shitters ( opps...sorry this is a family show).
